Michigan Association of Calligraphers (MAC) is a non-profit organization that is open to all who are interested in calligraphy, the art of beautiful writing.

MAC was formed in 1978. Its principal purposes and functions are to perpetuate, enhance, and prom Our membership includes beginning through advanced students, professional calligraphers and interested artists. MAC has approximately 100 members, most of who live in southeastern lower Michigan, although we also have members in six states and two foreign countries. MAC sponsors General Meetings with programs, workshops, exhibitions, and lectures throughout the year. MAC holds General Meetings four times per year in March, May, September, and December. Workshops are offered for beginner through advanced calligraphers, with topics ranging from alphabets, alphabet variations, creative use of lettering and related interests, such as bookbinding. In addition, MAC sponsors annual exhibitions, which may be either juried and non-juried, to expose the general public to all that calligraphy is and to provide our members with an opportunity to exhibit our work. The Board of Directors serves voluntarily and through their dedication and efforts, they promote calligraphy and bring our members all the benefits associated with membership.

Grosse Pointe Joiner Fair
October 7, 2026

MAC was one of 60 non-profit organizations and clubs that participated in this year’s Grosse Pointe Joiner Fair on October 7th sponsored by the Grosse Pointe Public Library and War Memorial. This three-hour event allowed groups to discuss with attendees about their organization and the benefits they offer their members. I’m excited to say that over 75 people stopped. Our table was well received with several people interested in what we did and what we offered the community. I was surprised to learn that many of the attendees had ‘dabbled’ in calligraphy and were interested in learning more about our organization. We were able to get almost 20 people to sign up for more information. An thank you email went out to all that signed up

Finally, if you hear about other joiner fairs or have an organization that would be interested in hearing more about MAC please let Susan Vethacke know at ([email protected]). The more we can showcase how wonderful MAC is, the easier it will be to grow our membership and bring in new ideas
