March 2026 trainings at Workforce

Transferrable Skills
Transferrable skills are qualities you have already acquired which can be used in a different job. Make it easier for employers to see the connection between your qualities and the skillset needed to do the job and market yourself as a solution to the employer’s problem. Learn ways to research the employer’s needs then identify and show them that you have these skills.

Interview Techniques
Interviewing for a job today can be more intimidating than it needs to be if you’re not sure what to expect, how to prepare, or what the interviewer expects from you. In this workshop, you’ll learn what makes an interview successful, the types of questions to expect, and how to effectively prepare.

Demystifying the Civil Service Merit System
Attendees will get background information on the merit system, a review of appointment types, overview of the various agencies, a review of the exam process, learn how to access and navigate the necessary websites, and an overview of NY HELPS.

The Ongoing Job Search
Learn about a topic that can help you optimize your job search. Engage in an informal discussion about job search strategies. Discover new “tips and tricks” of job search. Get advice on overcoming barriers to landing a job. Network with people who are on a similar path and can relate to what you’re going through. Celebrate success along your journey.

Job Search Strategies
This comprehensive workshop will cover professionalism, networking, job search skills, and interviewing. This information will provide a strong foundation for attendees to build their job search skills. You will be provided with sample material to assist you moving forward. Our Employment Counselors will present on the topics in a conversational style and answer your questions throughout.

Using Age to Your Advantage
Let’s look at age as an advantage, not an obstacle, when seeking employment. Learn to sell your track record and identify obstacles holding you back.

Upskilling and Introduction to Coursera
This hands-on workshop introduces participants to Coursera as a powerful platform for professional upskilling. Learn how to navigate courses, earn industry-recognized certificates, and build in-demand skills aligned with your career goals—all at your own pace. Ideal for job seekers needing flexible and high-quality learning opportunities.

Computer Basics for Jobseekers
This workshop introduces NorthStar Digital Literacy, a free, self-guided program designed to help job seekers build essential computer and online skills. Participants will learn how to create a professional email account, navigate the NorthStar platform, take skills assessments, and access free training in areas like basic computer use, internet navigation, email, Microsoft Office, and career search strategies. The session also covers how the NYSDOL Career Center supports learners with account setup, computer access, and proctored certification testing—key steps toward improving employability in a digital world.
