Volunteer Engagement Specialist VISTA (Binghamton, NY)
The Broome County Council of Churches (the Council) Volunteer Engagement Specialist will have a lead role in volunteer recruitment and retention. This position supports healthy futures through our efforts to eliminate food insecurity, ensure older adults are safe and able to remain in their homes, and support the work of our jail and hospital programming. Additionally, the role will help support our non-profit grocery store the Greater Good Grocery (GGG).

Position Details (start date TBD):

📍 Assist with the Council’s fundraising efforts and resource development. The creation, collaboration, and distribution of written appeals and grants to provide financial support for programming.

📍 Work side-by-side with program directors on all community events and education/volunteer recruitment efforts.

📍 Assist with the recruitment, orientation, and management of volunteers to support the Council’s work in Broome County

Some local nonprofits that work to address food insecurity, overdoses and senior isolation are scrambling after the elimination of funding for the AmeriCorps program, which places volunteers with nonprofits across the country.

Recently, Rural Health Network AmeriCorps VISTA member Deacon Hogan was invited to share information about health access in rural communities on an episode of WCNY's Cycle of Health show. Based on the results of his VISTA project conducting surveys and focus groups with rural community members, Deacon discussed the many barriers and potential solutions for getting rural people the healthcare that they need. The episode will air in May; stay tuned for your chance to watch the show!
