Volunteers are the heart and soul of Faith in Action's mission. They're selfless, dedicated, compassionate, and caring beyond measure. Today, we celebrate a huge milestone - in the past 12 months, volunteer Maureen McPhee has given 100 rides! These rides have allowed older adults to remain healthy, active, and independent in our community. THANK YOU, Maureen. You are truly a gem!

If you're interested in making a HUGE impact on our community, whether it's giving one ride or 100, please reach out to FIAV at (607) 724-9130 x 318 to learn about our flexible and rewarding volunteer opportunities.

The power of ONE: For every ONE volunteer we onboard, THREE seniors are rolled off of our waiting list.

What a wonderful time of connection, smiles, and community! ❤️⚾

Faith in Action Volunteers (FIAV) was thrilled to join Rowdy and Ruby from the Binghamton Rumble Ponies for a special visit with students at the Children's Home of the Wyoming Conference who are participating in Generations at Bat: Pen Pals at the Plate.

This heartwarming program brings together youth from the Children's Home and our senior friends at the Johnson City Senior Center through the timeless tradition of pen pals. By sharing letters, stories, and experiences, participants are building meaningful intergenerational friendships that remind us all that connection has no age limit.

A big thank you to our incredible partners—the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Children's Home, and the Johnson City Senior Center—for helping make this program such a memorable experience. And of course, thank you to Rowdy and Ruby for bringing plenty of laughs, high-fives, and team spirit!

We can't wait to see these new friendships continue to grow—both on and off the field! 💙❤️

🌞 Hot Weather Safety Tips for Seniors 🌞

When temperatures rise, older adults are at greater risk for heat-related illness. A few simple steps can make a big difference:

💧 Drink plenty of water—even if you don't feel thirsty.
🏠 Stay in air-conditioned spaces or visit a cool public place if your home is too warm.
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
🌳 Avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day.
🚿 Take cool showers or use cool, damp washcloths to help lower your body temperature.
🥗 Eat light meals and enjoy water-rich fruits and vegetables.
💊 Check with your healthcare provider or pharmacist if your medications may increase your risk of heat-related illness.
🚗 Never stay in a parked car.
❤️ Check in on older family members, friends, and neighbors—especially those who live alone.

⚠️ Know the warning signs of heat illness: confusion, dizziness, fainting, severe headache, nausea, hot skin, or a high body temperature. If someone shows these signs, seek medical attention right away.

A little extra care during hot weather can help everyone stay safe, healthy, and comfortable. Please share this post to help spread the word! 🌞💙

Faith in Action Volunteers had a wonderful afternoon celebrating "Thirty Years of Volunteers" honoring the incredible volunteers who make our mission possible every single day!

Our annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic is a small way to say thank you to the dedicated individuals who so generously give their time, compassion, and support to our neighbors in need.

We’re excited to share some moments from the day! From laughter, fellowship, and meaningful connections to the delicious meal generously donated by Lupo's and MANNA of the southern tier, these photos capture the spirit of service and community that our volunteers bring every day.

Thank you to each and every volunteer for the difference you make in the lives of those we serve. We are truly grateful for your commitment, kindness, and heart for helping others.
