Old School ⚾️ Dyar Miller wore a professional baseball uniform for 51 straight seasons. He has several championship n World Series rings. Dyar has been inducted to Indiana Sports n Rochester Red Wings Hall of Fames ⚾️
For all of the pitchers on Facebook please “share” so many of his players may read it.
Dyar was 1 of 14 kids to graduate from his Indiana small town high school - New Point
As a catcher, Dyar attended n graduated from Utah State. He was able to play for the Phillies for 1 seasons. They released the catcher with the strong arm because of his weak bat.
Dyar was substitute teaching when Jim Frey came into his school n knocked on his classroom door. Jim was with the Orioles n would go onto manage the 1980 Royal to the World Series. Jim signed Dyar to the O’s to pitch !
Dyar learned the art of pitching over the next 7 seasons in the minors. Then 1 day the 29 year old was given the news = you’re going to the show as a 29 year old rookie.
Dyar didn’t look back for the next 7 years with the O’s, Angels, Blue Jays n Mets. As luck would have it, his next 3 seasons were with the Cardinals organization in the minors - where he switched to coaching at age 38.
For the next 28 seasons, Dyar became a highly respected pitching coach - 19 of those years with the Cardinals.
After his 51st season, it was time to go back to Indianapolis n spend more time his pretty wife, Bertha of 31 years.
If you r reading this as a fan or player, please leave a comment - for Dyar is one of thee most beloved men of the game. It was a pleasure spending 2 days with him.
For the collectors - Dyar has donated his cleats, ballclub shirts, jerseys n travel bags to The BEST, Inc. - the BEST Scholars - for their auctions to raise $ for the 18 kids they sponsor through 4 years of college. Contact me privately if you have interest.
Just another example of Dyar thinking of others first 💕 ⚾️
