Our monthly Berwyn Tree Canopy Initiative meeting will be held this week on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 7:30 pm.

This month's meeting will be held at Berwyn's Senior Center, 3320 Grove Ave. We will be in the Conference Room — Enter through the door at the north end of the building.

Regular meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm.

“Granular predictions about how [heat-related illnesses (HRIs)] will be distributed around the country can shape interventions now, from the way that cities are designed to how tax dollars are put to use in different neighborhoods. ‘Such models can align specific interventions that address community vulnerabilities to extreme heat while improving the calibration, coordination, and timing of regional responses,’ the study’s authors wrote.

“Other work from [Portland State University professor Vivek] Shandas explores the uneven ways that people will be impacted by extreme heat, even within the same city. During a record-setting heat wave in 2021 in the Pacific Northwest, Shandas drew attention to those disparities [ https://www.wweek.com/news/city/2021/07/14/this-is-the-hottest-place-in-portland/ ] by demonstrating how one neighborhood east of downtown Portland, Oregon, was 25 degrees hotter than more affluent areas with a robust urban canopy of trees and greenery to cool things off.”

New projections show a dramatic rise in heat-related emergencies across the United States.

We are out here getting set up at the North Berwyn Park District’a Art in the Park. Beautiful day, and we are in the shade under a tree. Event opens at 10 am. Come check it out, and come and see us to talk trees!

If you had branches come down from parkway trees during last night’s storm, you can pile them on the parkway. Public Works will be going through the neighborhood over the next few days to collect them.

If a branch is too large to move and is blocking a sidewalk or an entry/exit to your home, please call the non-emergency number at 708-795-5600 to report it.

Please be patient as crews work through everything. This storm hit hard, and the city has been responding to a lot of calls. Thank you to everyone who has already reported issues and to our crews for being out there!
