Czech Heritage Week kicks off this weekend with one of Chicago’s great traditions, the eighty-seventh Moravian Day. Teddy and I talked with Denise Marek, president of United Moravian Societies, about keeping our traditions alive for so many generations so far from home. This year you really can step into Moravia for a day. Žadovjáci, a live band from the Czech Republic, is playing Saturday night and throughout Sunday. On Sunday, after Mass at 11, there’s a full dance program at 2. Over one hundred kids and adults in authentic kroje, Teddy and me included. Then music and dancing until 9 PM. Food, b**r, w**e, music, dance, and a little piece of Moravia right here. Come celebrate with us United Moravian Societies

Czech Heritage Week is almost here!

From September 19–27, Chicagoland will celebrate everything that makes our Czech heritage so special — our culture, traditions, music, theater, history, food and, most importantly, our community.

We are incredibly proud of all our fellow Czech and Czech-American organizations that work throughout the year to keep our heritage, language and traditions alive. Czech Heritage Week is a wonderful opportunity to come together, support one another and show just how strong the Czech community in Chicago still is.

Follow us throughout the week! We’ll be posting daily about the different events happening around Chicagoland so you don’t miss anything.

And make sure to save the date for CZECH FEST on Saturday, Seltember 26! Come celebrate with Czech food, music, friends, family and traditions that connect generations.

We may be thousands of miles from the Czech Republic, but our Czech spirit is alive and well in Chicago.
