Founded in 1974, Berkeley City Ballet is a not for profit organization that provides the intensive training and performing experience necessary to qualify young dancers for entrance into major dance companies if they wish. BCB’s advanced students audition and are selected to participate in supplementary summer workshops at renowned schools. Over the years, a considerable number of BCB graduates ha
ve continued into professional careers in dance with companies such as American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey and Dance Theater of Harlem. Others have pursued further training at prestigious college-level dance programs at Butler University, University of Utah, UC Irvine, Boston Conservatory, and Alvin Ailey/Fordham. Berkeley City Ballet’s mission is to bring cultural enrichment and an awareness and appreciation of the art of dance to the East Bay.
