Wixarika Research Center The Wixárika Research Center is a non-profit family foundation that promotes public awareness and respect for Wixárika culture, history and art.

The Wixárika Research Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit public foundation founded and registered in the State of California in May of 2001. We strive to promote public awareness of the Wixárika (Huichol) culture of Mexico through an online archive of their art, history, and culture along with a news section dedicated to current events. In addition to the archive, we provide support for community initiatives that advance and preserve Wixárika culture and territory. The Wixárika remain one of Mexico’s most enigmatic indigenous peoples and have actively preserved their ancestral land base, language, social organization and spiritual practices. Nonetheless, the Wixárika must actively work to preserve their culture and land against the encroachment of large development projects and the ever-growing intrusion of people interested in their knowledge and resources. Through our longstanding alliances with Wixárika communities and organizations, our foundation provides a free platform for accessing information on Wixárika history, art and contemporary politics. Our hope is that our archive can facilitate greater appreciation of Wixárika culture and work as an instrument for advancing ongoing Wixárika efforts to make autonomous decisions regarding how to best manage their land, education, healthcare and housing. Our foundation has worked toward the defense of the sacred lands and natural resources of the Wixárika people and when requested we help design, implement and finance environmentally sustainable projects for their communities. All projects we participate in are authorized by consensus at general assemblies and confirmed in writing by the elected Traditional and Agrarian Authorities. Additionally, our foundation is committed to working with young Wixárika scholars and university students. This includes our scholarship fund for college students and providing opportunities for young Wixaritari to work with the archive collected by the Negríns. We hope you will enjoy exploring our website whether you are an enthusiast of Wixárika art, a student, a scholar, or someone interested in indigenous rights and the current events shaping our shared future in this rapidly changing world. La inseguridad no es exclusiva de Tatei Kie...: Gabriel Pacheco.

REGIÓN NORTE DE JALISCO. - "Mi apoyo y solidaridad a la comunidad wixárika de Tateikie, es necesario y urgente el diseño de buenas estrategias de seguridad con la participación de los tres órdenes de gobierno para garantizar la paz y justicia a los habitantes del lugar.

El problema de la inseguridad no es exclusivo de Tateikie sino de toda la región donde está el asentamiento wixárika extendido en los estados de Jalisco, Nayarit, Durango y Zacatecas, la región conocida como el Gran Nayar.

Las rutas de comunicación terrestre al interior de esta región ha sido cada vez más de alta inseguridad desde años atrás.

Urge un acordonamiento seguro en todo el territorio wixárika que garantice el libre tránsito, el libre ejercicio de su propio sistema de gobierno tradicional y agrario, el libre desarrollo de las actividades ceremoniales que no tienen fronteras culturales ni lingüísticas aunque pertenezcan a distintos estados del Gran Nayar.

Urge tratar el tema de inseguridad de manera integral donde también traten temas de educación, salud, territorio, infraestructura, medio ambiente, patrimonio cultural, Etc".

QUIÉN ES GABRIEL PACHECO?

El Mtro. Gabriel Pacheco Salvador es originario de Guadalupe Ocotán, Nayarit. Además de ser escritor y poeta, lo que le ha permitido recibir diversos premios y reconocimientos, desde muy joven se involucró en la vida académica respaldado por la Universidad de Guadalajara, de la cual obtuvo la Maestría en Lingüística.

Dentro de la máxima Casa de Estudios de Jalisco, ha desempeñado diversas tareas y responsabilidades como vínculo académico y cultural con sus hermanos de raza, entre ellos, promotor cultural de la lengua indígena.

Desde el 2002, coordina el Encuentro Internacional de Escritores en Lenguas Indígenas Voces de Culturas Vivas que se realiza en la ciudad de Guadalajara en la Feria Internacional del Libro y es consejero nacional del Instituto Nacional de Lenguas Indígenas (INALI) .

Es actualmente, secretario de la División de Cultura y Sociedad en el Centro Universitario del Norte.
