When clean water 💧 comes to a community, life changes in ways that numbers alone cannot fully capture.

In Dodola, Ethiopia 🌍, parents are spending less time worrying about sick kids, less money on emergency doctor visits, and fewer hours walking to fetch water each day.

Instead, families are working together, children are staying healthy, and extra income is going directly toward school supplies.

Swipe through to hear what life looks like now, directly from the community members and local health workers experiencing this change firsthand.

At local schools, kids are learning something simple but life-changing: how to wash their hands.

Through the school's WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) committee, students learn healthy habits and use resources like improved latrines and handwashing stations to practice them every day. Handwashing helps keep kids healthy, so they can stay in school, and clean, safe water makes that possible.

When school test scores started dropping in certain districts of Shinyanga, Tanzania, local leaders did something innovative: they launched an environmental study to see what was happening in those areas.

The data revealed a clear culprit: lack of safe water. 💧

Regional Commissioner Mboni Mhita shared with us that when water is scarce, young girls bear the burden. Instead of sitting at a desk, they spend their mornings walking miles for water, keeping them trapped in a cycle of missing school.

But when we partner with local teams to bring reliable, safe water directly to a school, everything shifts. Attendance skyrockets, grades rise, and girls take their seats back in the classroom.

This back-to-school season, you can help fund water that gets kids back to school. 🎒

What does real, lasting change look like? It looks like a community taking full ownership of its own future. 🤝

A community handover is the turning point where the responsibility and management of new infrastructure and healthy habits—like water points and sanitation facilities—are officially transferred to local leaders and residents. It’s how we ensure these systems serve families for generations.

In the Shinyanga District of Tanzania, this transition recently became a reality at Masekelo Primary School and Sumbigu Dispensary. These facilities now provide safe water and dignified hygiene spaces managed entirely by the community.

"We are not simply building infrastructure; we are helping communities establish sustainable systems that continue serving families for years to come." - Dave LeVan, CEO of Water for Good.

As you help your kids check off their school supply lists ✏️ and prepare for the new school year, thousands of miles away, children in Tanzania are feeling that exact same back-to-school excitement. They are ready to learn and play... but many are missing the one thing they need most to stay in school: safe water.

This week, consider starting a new back-to-school tradition with your family.

Before the busy routine takes over, take a moment with your kids to fund safe water 💧 for a classroom so kids like yours can go back to school too. When you give, you can send a note of encouragement to a student in Tanzania. It’s a beautiful way to practice global citizenship right from your kitchen table.

Give together and check off the most important box on their list: https://waterforgood.org/bts-2026-social/

Every child belongs in school. Safe water gets them there.

As back-to-school season approaches, we are all preparing for the familiar shift in morning routines, packing lunchboxes, and filling water bottles. Across the globe, children in our program areas are feeling that exact same excitement about school. They are eager to learn, ready to play, and looking forward to continuing their education.

But the biggest difference between their morning routine and yours is access to water.

Instead of being in a classroom with their friends, many of these children walk for miles to collect dirty water that brings disease to their families, locking them into a cycle that keeps them out of school.

Access to safe water changes everything. It clears the path back to the classroom, where children can reach their potential and dare to dream of who they can become.

Take a moment to read Yusuph's letter, a 14-year-old student in Tanzania, and consider helping kids like him have safe water so they can get back to school. https://waterforgood.org/bts-2026-social/

Ever wonder what it takes to keep safe, clean water flowing to thousands of people every single day? 💧

Meet Raphael, one of our incredible field staff members! His day-to-day work spans from designing water supply schemes and sanitation facilities to planning community activities and managing reports.

The scale of his daily impact is massive: one system he works on serves over 9,000 people, while another reaches more than 21,000.
As Raphael says, projects of this scale are a true team effort. We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported this work in one way or another. You make this daily impact possible!

"Every visit, every prayer, and every act of kindness remind me that God still sees me."

At 106 years old, Ibrahimu of Mwamanyuda Village, Tanzania 🌍, felt forgotten after years of loneliness and the unimaginable loss of outliving five of his children. His local church members began visiting regularly, sharing meals, and caring for him as family, showing Ibrahimu an outpouring of the love of Christ. 🙏

The local church used the skills they learned from Water for Good to help him establish a Healthy Home by building a safe latrine, drying rack, and handwashing station for him, restoring the daily dignity he deserved.

This is what love in action looks like. Through our partnership, local churches are equipped to step into the lives of neighbors like Ibrahimu with the simple, daily care they deserve.
