In April 2013, Curt and the founding board members of the Solomon Valley Community Foundation had a vision for the future of Mitchell County.

Thirteen years later, that vision has grown into $7.8 million in grants and scholarships, 78 funds held at SVCF and a $2 million county-wide grant fund—all made possible by the hundreds of donors who have joined in creating a secure future for generations to come in Mitchell County.

Today, we’re especially grateful for Curt’s 13 years of leadership as Chairman of the SVCF Board. While his time as Chairman has come to a close, his service to the Foundation certainly has not. Curt continues to serve on the board as Past Chair, carrying forward the vision he helped establish more than a decade ago.

After our July board meeting, several SVCF board members had the opportunity to get out into the community and see SVCF grant dollars in action.

Our first stop was the Perdue House, where Director Shelby Bohnert gave us a tour and shared more about the important role the home plays in providing a welcoming place to stay for patients and families receiving medical care away from home.

A recent SVCF grant is helping support updates to the Berkley and Rose rooms, where wallpaper is being replaced after 12 years of use. The project is part of the Perdue House’s ongoing efforts to maintain a comfortable, welcoming space for the families who rely on it.

Grant tours like this give our board the chance to see firsthand where grant dollars are going, meet the people doing the work and better understand the impact these projects have throughout our communities.

We’re grateful to Shelby for showing us around and sharing more about the Perdue House!

The Greater Salina Community Foundation and its regional affiliates are proud to announce the launch of Giving Acres, a farmland giving program that helps farmers, ranchers and agricultural landowners preserve their legacy through charitable gifts of farmland.

For many farmers and ranchers, land is more than acres and boundaries. It represents generations of hard work, stewardship, and deep-rooted values. Giving Acres offers charitable giving options that allow landowners to support the communities they love while ensuring their values continue to make an impact for generations to come. 🩵

The future of our community is in good hands.

This year's Youth Action Council spent the day in Tipton learning about local leadership, exploring community assets, and discovering how they can make a difference right here at home. Through hands-on activities and conversations with community leaders, these students are already proving that leadership has no age limit.
