In November, Kaufman Cancer Center nurses Jamie Adams, RN, and Nora Lanahan, RN, joined a multi-state medical mission to a large, impoverished Guatemalan community.

Over four days, the team provided compassionate care to about 1,000 residents who faced significant barriers to accessing health services. Offerings included physical exams, physical therapy, vision checks with free prescription glasses, dental care and essential medications for chronic and acute illnesses. Children received play therapy and toys, while chaplains and grief counselors supported those in need of emotional support.

Living in makeshift homes and facing social marginalization, residents welcomed the team with gratitude and resilience. The mission highlighted the powerful impact of skilled, caring health professionals abroad, reinforcing our dedication to serving vulnerable populations and building global health partnerships.
