Aviation is one of the most technically demanding and historically exclusive fields in professional life. The path to becoming a licensed commercial pilot requires hundreds of hours of flight time, rigorous written and practical examinations, medical certification, and sustained financial and personal investment across years of training. The barriers to entry are real, and the demographics of the profession have historically reflected who had access to those resources. These four young men are on that path — taking the steps, accumulating the hours, building the skills, and working toward credentials that will allow them to fly professionally. There is something specific worth acknowledging in the celebration of people entering aviation who come from communities historically underrepresented in it. The pipeline of professional pilots is shaped not just by who can physically perform the job — many people can — but by who believes from an early age that the profession is available to them, who receives encouragement to pursue it, and who encounters people who look like them already doing it.Representation in aviation at the professional level creates the conditions for broader representation in the pipeline. Pilots who are visible in their communities, who speak to students, who appear in photographs being celebrated on their journey — they shift what young people imagine as possible for themselves.Four young men choosing aviation. Taking the steps. Moving toward something difficult and worthwhile.Aviation needs more of them. They're doing the work. That deserves acknowledgment.

I want to take a moment to thank the President of the NAACP, Dr. Glover, for opening doors for me and allowing me a seat at the table. I’m truly blessed to be in a position to build with state and local representatives—not just to connect, but to watch, listen, and learn.

A special thank you to the Chair of the South Carolina Black Caucus, Mrs. Annie E. McDaniel, State Representative Howard ,Mayor Daniel Rickenmann of Columbia, along with all the state and local leaders who were in the building today.

Opportunities like this remind me that growth comes from being in the right rooms and learning from those already doing the work. I’m grateful and ready for what’s next. 💪🏾

Rest in honor and everlasting strength to a living legend whose footsteps changed the course of history. Rev. Jesse Jackson stood on the front lines when it wasn’t safe, when it wasn’t popular, and when it demanded true courage. Because of his voice, doors opened. Because of his sacrifice, generations found hope.

His life reminds us that one man standing in truth can move a nation forward. We honor your legacy, your fight, and the path you cleared for us all. Your work lives on through every step we take toward justice and equality. ✊🏾

City Councilman Mitch Mitchell has personally encouraged us to share an event that is very close to his heart: the 5th Annual African American History Education Conference!

You are invited to a fantastic three-day experience starting Thursday, February 12, featuring a selection of eight historical tours. The event continues on Friday, February 13, and Saturday, February 14, at Robert Smalls Leadership Academy, where you'll find engaging teaching and learning opportunities.

This year will showcase Community Connections, Student Performances, and the captivating culmination of Jim Capers by the Gullah Kin Folks traveling theatre.

The keynote speakers include renowned authors, artists, educators, clergy, historians, and entertainers, all of whom have deep and personal ties to our community. Their insights into Beaufort’s untold stories will leave you inspired and motivated to participate in meaningful dialogues that arise from this collaboration.

Mark your calendars and don’t miss out on this enriching experience!
