Rotary Club of Beaufort

Rotary Club of Beaufort The Rotary Club of Beaufort, SC is the oldest and largest of the three clubs in the city--- serving the community for over 90 years.

The Rotary Club of Beaufort is very active in supporting each of the Rotary Avenues of Service. Our members participate in numerous Community Service and Vocational Service projects; they are generous with their time and money in supporting both International Service as well as the Rotary Foundation. Youth Service is achieved through the Youth Exchange Program and the support of an Interact Club.

To make all this possible Club Service sustains an ambitious fund raising agenda. But all is not work—social and fellowship events lighten the Rotary year.

Dave Miller, a retired Army officer, now administers the turtle watch program on Folly Beach, SC. On June 10, he spoke at length to members of the Beaufort Rotary about the challenges inherent in trying to ensure Loggerhead Turtles (one of seven species of turtles presently on the endangered species list) can lay their eggs and that those eggs hatch and the baby turtles are able to hatch in their nests and make the trek to the ocean.

There are numerous "little libraries" throughout Beaufort, but this one, at the Washington Street Park in the Beaufort historic district was a gift from the Rotary Club of Beaufort. Recently refurbished, courtesy of Rotarian Allen Patterson, it just lacks books! Please do your part and donate any books to the Beaufort Rotary's "Little Library." It is located at the intersection of Washington and Charles Streets. Thank you.

Rachel McBride, Founder and Executive Director of the Helinathus Project, returned to the Beaufort Rotary on June 3rd, to further elaborate on the efforts of the Helianthus Project to protect children in the greater Beaufort area from child trafficking, with an emphasis on her nonprofit's recovery program, and the efforts to build or purchase a home for these children as they recover. While Rotary International does not have a specific Area of Focus dedicated to anti-trafficking efforts, Rotarians around the world are increasingly taking action to combat modern slavery.

Rotary's major environmental project in 2025 was to layout and construct a pollinator garden at the Port Royal Sound Foundation. The benches became so popular that they quickly showed wear, so Rotarian Ron Garrett arranged to have them repainted and restained. They are now looking as good as new! If you are on Route 170 headed towards Bluffton, make a stop at the Port Royal Sound Foundation on Lemon Island, and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Rotary Club of Beaufort's pollinator garden!
