Interested in learning about bird banding? The Little Rock Audubon Center is opening their banding station every Wednesday in October. Sign-up and join us this month!

Join us for an introduction to bird banding! Every Wednesday in October, we are opening our banding station to the public from 8am-10am. Participants will get an up-close look at banding, recording data, and releasing the birds back into the wild.

Spots are limited to 20 participants to best offer an engaging experience for everyone. Each participant should sign up using the form. Participants should feel free to drop-in and are not required to stay for the full 2-hr duration.

"How much more are we going to lose in our lifetime?”

That question from a Southside High School FFA student gets to the heart of why coastal restoration matters to all of us, including the birds and wildlife that depend on Louisiana’s wetlands.

The students spent months researching coastal land loss and the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion, traveling to the coast to hear directly from shrimpers, oystermen and restoration researchers. Now, they’re taking what they learned to the national FFA competition.

Happy ! Can you guess our favorite animal? (Okay, it's not much of a mystery 🐦)

Meet the Prothonotary Warbler, also called the "swamp canary." In summer, this golden songbird sings from the treetops of flooded bottomland forests and cypress swamps across the South. It's the only eastern warbler that nests in tree holes instead of out in the open, and it often moves into old woodpecker nests.

They've already headed to the tropics for the winter, but we'll be ready when they return in April. 💛

Estuaries are some of the most productive places on Earth. 🌊🐦

They give Brown Pelicans, plovers and other shorebirds a place to nest, give millions of migrating birds a place to rest and refuel, and help protect our coastal communities from storms, flooding and erosion.

That's why Audubon is championing legislation in Congress to protect estuaries and coastal habitats across the country, including bills that would:

✅ Renew the National Estuary Program, which supports locally led restoration and cleaner water, and add a new Mississippi Sound Estuary Program.
✅ Reauthorize programs that help states and communities conserve coastal land and study estuary ecosystems.

Last night, an estimated 13.5 million birds flew over the Delta while most of us were asleep. 🌙🐦

Fall migration is in full swing along the Mississippi Flyway. From September through November, millions of warblers, thrushes, tanagers and other songbirds travel through the Delta on their way south, and most of them fly at night. Migration usually peaks in mid-October, so the biggest nights are still ahead.

Here's where you come in: artificial light at night can pull migrating birds off course, leaving them exhausted or causing deadly collisions with buildings. One simple step makes a real difference.

💡 Turn off nonessential outdoor lights at night
💡 Close blinds and curtains after dark
💡 Use motion sensors or downward-facing, shielded fixtures for lights you need

Help give birds a clear, dark sky for their journey. Lights out for birds this fall. 🌎
