LINE 4 LINE is a community-based literacy program that provides free haircuts to boys age 2-13 in exchange for reading books.

Line 4 Line is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works through Barbershops to support literacy, close the achievement gap and provide positive learning opportunities for urban youth through mentor led out-of-school reading and creative programs.

Today we kicked off the 26-27 school year supplying our partners [email protected] with their weekly creative literacy kits, complete with books, lesson plan and materials for their volunteers to lead 20 young people every Wednesday East Baton Rouge Library Carver Library as part of Front Yard Bikes afterschool program . This week’s lesson explored building and architecture, we think the mini city maquettes look great and it sounds like the kids had a ton of fun creating.

I love school.

But this year, I hate the first day.

Not because I don’t want to learn… but because I have 2 older brothers and a sister, my mom couldn’t afford to buy me new school clothes this year. I hate wearing my older brother’s old clothes!

Will the other kids tease me? Will this be the worst day of my life?

School’s back this week and L4L team is out and about collaborating with new and old community partners! Yesterday with Oneil and Board President Travis Dabney spent the afternoon giving out Haircuts, jambalaya and school supplies in North BR. Tuesday we head to Gardere for the Joe Burrow Foundation’s BTS event w free haircuts from Oneils Barber$Beauty salon /. org team along w books & supplies, and on Saturday we’ll join East Baton Rouge Library at Main Library for more BTS resources and fun. We are so excited to see folks come together for the kids!
