The United States Postal Inspection Service is offering up to $150,000 for information on someone who allegedly attempted to rob a USPS letter carrier on Audubon Avenue, officials said.

Yesterday our neighborhood had another signficant and very concerning incident. This is a summary of what we know from our officers and should be considered preliminary information.

One of the mail carriers delivering mail near the intersection of Audubon and Sevenoaks was walking house to house. She was confronted by a man on foot and according to her report, he was armed. He wanted her master key to mailboxes at a nearby apartment complex. She gave him keys and he walked off toward her mail truck. At some point he turned around and walked toward her and threw the keys back at her and then ran away.

BRPD did respond but does not have the person in custody.

Today, additional investigations are being conducted (most likely led by the Post Master General’s agency). They are canvassing neighbors in the area of the incident and asking for any additional video footage.

So if you have cameras that have video around 2:45 to 4:00 pm that may show a man in red sweat pants and a dark hoodie running in the neighborhood that is obviously not a jogger please contact the BRPD, as they will be working with the other agencies.

If anyone had any other details or request that the agents have shared, please respond to this message.

Hopefully with the help of our neighbors, this person will be caught.

Neighborhood Safety Alert: 
Join to Prevent Car Burglaries

Baton Rouge residents are stepping up to fight against a troubling rise in vehicle burglaries — and it starts with a simple nightly habit.

is a grassroots initiative launched to curb car break-ins across Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish. Spearheaded by longtime crime commissioner Gary Patureau and supported by Baton Rouge Police Chief T.J. Morse and Captain Justin Payer of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, the campaign urges residents to lock their vehicles at 9 p.m. every night using their key fobs — ideally from inside their homes.
According to a recent interview, 68% of vehicle burglaries happen in unlocked cars and 21% of those involve stolen fi****ms. In 2024 alone, 300 guns were stolen from vehicles with 150 already stolen this year.

These thefts don’t just affect individual victims; they compromise the safety of entire neighborhoods. Criminals often return to areas where they’ve previously found easy targets.
Law enforcement is backing the initiative with social media campaigns, community outreach, and deployment of increased resources.

Residents are also encouraged to report suspicious activity directly to police, rather than relying solely on neighborhood apps. By locking vehicles, removing valuables, and staying alert, we can reduce crime and free up police resources for more serious investigations.

You can run but you cannot hide!

I wanted to share the following update on activities that have occurred in our area. This incident originated just outside our official boundaries but ended within it, in fact, in my backyard. Since this is an ongoing investigation, I cannot share the specifics, but it is important to let everyone know that city and CPNID are working on the problem. So….

Wednesday morning at 3:00 am, we had a knock on our door. After checking, I opened the door to 4 BRPD officers requesting access to the backyard to retrieve an item that had been tossed over our rear fence.

They have arrested the person and he is believed to be responsible for a number of the vehicle burglaries in our area. During the chase, he ditched a bicycle and electric scooter in a yard on Normandy (see attached photos) and these may have been previously stolen. If these are yours, please let me know. I have an incident number to claim them.

Unfortunately this may not be the only person breaking into cars, so to support the ongoing efforts, please continue to report the incidents through the City Dispatch and to the OGCPNID. It absolutely helped in the success of the operation.
