Folks over 65 of our supporters comprise 28.6% and folks 35 and under comprise 26.7% of our supporters. 49% women and 51% men. Here’s a response to J.R. Ball’s Redeye BR article this morning.
FOCPBR says:
For more than two decades, Baton Rouge has promised younger residents a real seat at the table. City‑Brooks Park is showing, again, how quickly that promise disappears when major decisions are shaped outside public view.

J.R. Ball’s framing suggests that dismantling long‑standing public amenities empowers young professionals. That is backwards. A genuine seat at the table comes from transparent, public, accountable decision‑making, not from processes where key stakeholders are excluded and major choices are set before the public arrives.

Young professionals are not asking for an amusement‑park version of City‑Brooks that could exist in any mid‑size city. They are asking for a Baton Rouge that addresses the real factors affecting whether people stay: safety, traffic, opportunity, and overall quality of life. Seniors who built this community want the same things: stewardship, continuity, and public trust.

Public land should remain public, and public processes should remain open. That is the table everyone deserves.
