Changes in Vaccine Recommendations Makes Them Seem Optional, but the Risk Hasn't Changed

Changes to the United States vaccine recommendations promoted by President Trump and Secretary Kennedy are not based on updated risk assessments for diseases and create ambiguity about the recommendations.

Even vaccines in the "routinely recommended" category have always been subject to shared decision-making between physicians and families. The schedule is indicating that most people at average risk should get these vaccines in the recommended windows to prevent illness and complications.

The "shared clinical decision-making" category often reads as optional because historically it has been used to indicate that a vaccine should be available upon request and in certain special circumstances outside of the indicated high-risk groups.

Routinely recommended vaccines are still subject to shared clinical decision-making between families and their physician, even when there are requirements for entry into school or military service.

There has only been one time in modern history that vaccination was truly mandated for children, after 9 children had died in one winter in Philadelphia.

Kids are equally stressed out by one shot or two. Getting the recommended shots in one appointment where called for by the AAP Vaccine Schedule, 1. gets them protected from more germs earlier and 2. means that they are less likely to remember the experience.

In two shots, RFK Jr., Donald Trump, and Paul Offit MD's immune systems were tested with 3,200 to 3,400 immunological components.

Today Dr. Offit's grandchildren--across the full schedule of vaccines--will have more immunity against more germs with just 160 immunological components.
