Mary's Hands Network

Mary's Hands Network Dedicated to the dramatic improvement of health equity among all women.

We are a community-rooted nonprofit that trains and supports doulas to provide free, compassionate care to birthing people across Louisiana. From prenatal visits to birth support and postpartum check-ins, we walk alongside families during one of life’s most powerful transitions. Every dollar you give helps us equip doulas, reach underserved areas, and ensure no one births alone. Support our mission by donating here:

FUN FACT: MELASMA

Let's talk about melasma, also called "the mask of pregnancy."
These are dark patches that can show up on your face... usually on your forehead, cheeks, or upper lip.
Pregnancy hormones combined with sun exposure trigger increased melanin production, which creates these patches.
They usually fade after pregnancy, but they can stick around longer for some people.
Sunscreen is your best friend here... it won't reverse melasma, but it can keep it from getting worse.
If you're dealing with this, you're not alone. It's super common and nothing you did wrong.

Did you get melasma? And did it fade postpartum? Let us know in the comments!

SIDE SLEEPING

Fun Fact Friday: there's actually a reason providers tell you to sleep on your left side during pregnancy.
Side sleeping... especially on your left... helps optimize blood flow to your uterus, kidneys, and baby. It takes pressure off
major blood vessels and keeps everything circulating the way it should. Right side is fine too, but left is slightly better.
Now, does this mean you need to panic if you wake up on your back? No. Your body will wake you up if it's a problem.
But if you're trying to get comfortable, left side with a pillow between your knees is your best bet.

Comment down below if you have a preference for which side feels more comfortable!
