It was the beginning of a slow, beautiful uprising: the era of freed people reuniting with families, stepping into political and community leadership, and working tirelessly to build better lives for our communities.

The spirit of Juneteenth is found in that very act of rebuilding. At ๐๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐ฉ ๐‚๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐ฒ ๐„๐ฆ๐ž๐ซ๐ ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ฒ ๐…๐จ๐จ๐ ๐๐š๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐ฒ, we see that mission in action every day. We know that to truly build a better life, families need the stability of nutritious food. ๐€ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐  ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐š ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ, and by providing nourishment, we are helping to support the families and neighbors who are building our future.

As we continue our Juneteenth series celebrating Black American food system leaders, we are honored to spotlight a local hero making waves in our neighboring community: ๐“๐ข๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐š๐ง๐ฒ ๐–๐š๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐จ๐ง.
Tiffany is a Navy veteran and the founder of -Kauv Garden Farm in Austin, TX.
Tiffanyโ€™s work is a beautiful example of food sovereignty in action. By transforming urban spaces into productive gardens, she is providing fresh food and a sense of healing to her neighbors.

๐ŸŒฑ ๐…๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐…๐จ๐จ๐ ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ: Tiffany uses her urban farm to grow specialty produce and provide an agricultural hub for her neighborhood.

In observance of Juneteenth, the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry will be closed on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Consequently, we will not have Fresh Foods for Families this month. Services resume on Monday, June 22, 2026, and the next Fresh Foods for Families distribution will be July 17, 2026.

Frances is our development associate who you will see at community events sharing Food Pantry information and services. When she's not in the community, she's behind a computer supporting all other "behind-the-scenes" work to ensure the Pantry's mission lives on!

๐Ÿ’šMany know her as the "๐†๐ซ๐š๐ง๐๐ฆ๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐‰๐ฎ๐ง๐ž๐ญ๐ž๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ก," having been present for the historic signing of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, establishing June 19 as a federal holiday!
Dr. Lee led this change by starting a walking campaign from Fort Worth, TX, to Washington, DC, walking 2.5 miles in cities, representing the 2.5 years it took for the enforcement of Emancipation to reach Texas.

But her fight for freedom is also a fight for food sovereignty and community health. Dr. Lee's legacy of nourishment lives on through ๐Ž๐ฉ๐š๐ฅ'๐ฌ ๐…๐š๐ซ๐ฆ, in Fort Worth, TX. This incredible initiative brings fresh, nutritious produce to food deserts in East and Southeast Fort Worth, providing:
๐ŸŒฑHealthy foods at reduced prices
๐Ÿ› Vital job-training opportunities
๐Ÿ…A direct solution to local food insecurity

Dr. Lee's work with community food banks and fighting food deserts mirrors our own mission. We are proud to stand in the tradition of leaders like her - working locally to ensure fresh, nutritious food is accessible to everyone in our community.
