THIS, we make ships happen! Sail 250 Maryland & Air Show Baltimore drew more than 600,000 visitors to Baltimore in June, generating an incredible $114.5 million in economic impact, according to a new report from Living Classrooms Foundation.
Those numbers tell an incredible story.

Sail Baltimore was proud to play a pivotal role in bringing this event to life & in welcoming one of the world's great fleets of tall ships to our waterfront. The results are clear: people love tall ships, & they are willing to travel to Baltimore to experience them.

Baltimore was just one of five American ports selected to host this world-class international fleet during the nation's 250th anniversary celebrations.
For Sail Baltimore, it is also a reminder of what we do best.

To everyone who joined us for Sail250 Maryland & Airshow Baltimore, thank you. You came out by the hundreds of thousands to celebrate maritime history, climb aboard ships from around the world, & experience Baltimore's waterfront at its very best.

Baltimore was one of just five ports that this world-class international fleet, & together we proved once again that this city knows how to welcome the world.

Over the course of the event, just shy of 250,000 visitors came aboard the fleet of visiting tall ships. Buque Escuela a Vela BAP Unión of Peru alone welcomed an incredible 37,000 guests, while Baltimore's own Pride of Baltimore II welcomed 8,245 visitors aboard during the celebration.

We work year-round to bring ships to Baltimore. We coordinate, plan, & prepare because we believe experiences like these matter. But we do it for you.

Your support showed us just how important Baltimore's waterfront is & how much these opportunities to connect with ships, crews, & our maritime heritage mean to this community. From all of us at Sail Baltimore, thank you for making Sail250 Maryland such an extraordinary success. We look forward to welcoming you back to the waterfront soon.

A month after Sail250 Maryland & Airshow Baltimore, we're taking a look back at some of the people whose efforts helped make the event possible. While the tall ships captured everyone's attention, countless volunteers were working behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly.

With two dozen visiting ships spread across Baltimore's waterfront & events taking place across multiple venues each day, moving crews, officials, & guests efficiently wasn't just a courtesy. It was an essential part of making Sail250 Maryland a success.

While these beautiful yachts may have caught a few eyes along the way, their real purpose was supporting the logistics that kept the festival running smoothly behind the scenes. From transporting crews & dignitaries to connecting the many moving pieces of a harbor-wide event, they played a vital role in the success of Sail250 Maryland.

A sincere thank you to Sal & every vessel owner who answered the call. Your generosity, professionalism, & willingness to serve behind the scenes helped keep the event moving & ensured Baltimore put its best foot forward.

We're not saying our berthing plan predicted the future, but … During Sail250 Maryland & Airshow Baltimore we berthed Argentina's ARA LIBERTAD alongside Spain's JUAN SEBASTIAN DE ELCANO in Locust Point. Now, this Sunday, those same two nations will meet in the FIFA World Cup Final in New Jersey. Coincidence? Well let you decide.

A few weeks have passed since Sail250 Maryland & Airshow Baltimore but we're still reflecting on what an incredible event it was.

Seeing thousands of people line Baltimore's waterfront to welcome the fleet, explore the ships, & enjoy the airshow was something truly special. It was a reminder of what can happen when an entire community comes together.

As the logistical partner coordinating vessel operations, Sail Baltimore wants to recognize just a few of the many organizations, businesses, & individuals whose support helped make the event possible. Thank you to Bobby's Portable Restrooms & Bob Lang for festival support & sanitation services, BATA Marine for providing line handlers, the Association of Maryland Pilots, the Pier 5 Hotel for serving as home to our event headquarters & staff, & the Baltimore Water Taxi for providing complimentary transportation for vessel crews throughout the festival.

These are just a handful of the partners who stepped up. Behind the scenes, agencies, organizations, volunteers, first responders, & supporters from across Baltimore City, Baltimore County, & the surrounding region all played a role in making Sail250 Baltimore a success.

To everyone who helped bring Baltimore's waterfront to life & make the ships happen, thank you. We couldn't have done it without you!

We are honored to have hosted all four of the Gorch Fock-class sister ships at Sail250 Maryland & Airshow Baltimore & have them all docked together in the Inner Harbor.

Parking: Garage parking is available at the 250 Mission Garage (1 Distillery St.) and surface parking is available in The Sun Lot (300 E. Cromwell St.). Parking in the 250 Mission Garage is $5.99 for the first two hours and $12 for 2–4 hours. Rates for The Sun Lot are posted onsite. Paid street parking is also available throughout the neighborhood.

The Sister Ships Are Going Racing! In a rare gathering of sister ships, America's tall ship, USCGC EAGLE, will race her three historic German-built sister barques from New York to Boston: GORCH FOCK (II) of Germany, SAGRES of Portugal, and MIRCEA of Romania.

We don't have all the details yet. But local scuttlebutt indicates that all four competing vessels are now underway from Sail4th 250 & are currently motoring out of the New York shipping lanes. Latest word is that once they rendezvous offshore they will be racing East toward Nantucket & rounding Cape Cod before turning up in to Massachusetts Bay.

We have learned from a confidential source that the Five Sisters Cup, the trophy they will be racing for which has been in the possession of the German ship Gorch Fock (II) is now in the hands of Sail Boston so that it can be awarded to the winner.

• When and where will the race begin?
Latest word is that the race will begin on Thursday, July 9. The start is expected to take place offshore, south of Long Island after the four ships rendezvous.

• Can I watch the race from shore?
Probably not. To maximize sailing conditions and give the square-riggers plenty of room to maneuver, the ships are expected to follow an offshore blue-water route well out of sight of land.

• Will they transit the Cape Cod Canal?
No. The current plan is for the race fleet to round Cape Cod offshore before turning north into Massachusetts Bay.

• Where is the finish line?
That has not been announced and could change depending on weather & race conditions. We'll share more information if it becomes available.

• What are the rules?
This is a sailing race. Once the race begins, the ships will compete under sail. Engines are not used for the race itself except where required for safety or by race officials.
