Coming up on November 15th at The Church of the Redeemer, Baltimore at 4PM:
From its iconic four-note opening to its triumphant finale, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 is one of history’s most powerful and recognizable masterpieces, tracing a dramatic journey from struggle to victory.
Performed by the enormously talented Kathryn Farenish, Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G major, opens the program. The concerto highlights Mozart’s gift for lyrical and playful melodies. Composed in 1778, the three movement work features a grand and stately first movement. The graceful second movement is comprised of a warm string accompaniment allowing the solo flute to spin beautiful melodies.
The energetic finale is a rondo styled like a dance. Together, these Classical masterpieces celebrate the brilliance, innovation, and enduring genius of Mozart and Beethoven.

We look forward to welcoming you to today's 39th Season Premiere at 4PM, featuring Baroque Masterworks!

Our final soloist for this concert is Michael Vaughn on violin!
Michael Vaughn has been performing with Bach in Baltimore since 2015, and has been a free-lance violinist in the Baltimore region since moving here from Indianapolis in 2009. He has performed with a variety of ensembles including the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Delaware Symphony, Reading Symphony, Maryland Symphony, Baltimore Choral Arts, and Baltimore Symphony Musicians. In Indiana he regularly performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, and was associate concertmaster and soloist with the Muncie and Richmond (Indiana) Symphony Orchestras.
Michael and his wife Nana founded the Fisher Chamber Players in Fishers, IN, and he served as conductor and artistic director. He earned a violin performance degree (with a minor in computer science) and music education degree from Indiana University, studying with Paul Biss and Mimi Zweig. In addition to being active as a musician, Michael works as a technologist, working the past 3 years as the associate director for digital accessibility at Yale University, where he works to help make Yale’s digital campus accessible to people with disabilities. Michael’s wife Nana is an active violist and educator in the area, and his 3 children are also active in the arts, with the youngest two studying viola and percussion at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Continuing the introductions of our soloists for our 39th Season Premiere this Sunday at 4PM, featuring Baroque Masterworks:

Organist and Artistic Director Stephen A. Holmes (Stephen Holmes) began his formal musical training with The Maryland State Boychoir (MSB) at the age of nine. His strong ties and commitment to the MSB continue today where he is in his fourteenth year on staff, now serving as the Artistic Director—overseeing the boychoir’s six ensembles. Mr. Holmes serves in various leadership roles throughout the Maryland and DC area.
He is currently the Director of Choral Activities at Notre Dame of Maryland University and Director of the Annapolis Area Christian School Men’s Chorus. He has served as Associate Director of the Glorystar Children’s Choir, Director of the University of Maryland Men’s Chorus (from 2005 to 2011) and as chair of the Boychoir Repertoire & Standards Committee of the Maryland/DC division of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).
In addition, he is the Director/Organist for the Church of the Resurrection. Mr. Holmes serves on the board of directors for the Canticle Singers of Baltimore, The Maryland State Boychoir, and The Choral Music Educator’s Association of Maryland. He has conducted in 35 states and at the ACDA and Maryland Music Educators Association conferences, and has served as a guest conductor of county and state honor choirs and festivals. His choral arrangements have been performed by choirs throughout the mid-Atlantic region. He has performed as a soloist and chorister with numerous regional ensembles and has been recognized with a number of voice, organ, and conducting awards. Mr. Holmes, his wife and daughter reside in Baltimore’s Mayfield community. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in voice and organ performance from Towson University and his Masters degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Good Morning! We'd like to begin the introduction of our soloists for our 39th Season Premiere this Sunday at 4PM, featuring Baroque Masterworks:

Dr. Phillip Collister (Phillip Collister-Murray), bass-baritone, has performed frequently as a soloist with Bach in Baltimore as well as solo engagements with the Handel Choir of Baltimore, Washington Chamber Orchestra, the Washington Bach Consort, Maryland Handel Festival, the Bach Sinfonia, and internationally at the Handel Festival in Halle, Germany. He has performed at Carnegie Hall with his professional ensemble Trio Montage who performed newly commissioned works for voice, clarinet, and piano. He maintains an active solo recital and concert schedule as well.
Dr. Collister has directed, conducted, or produced numerous operas, operettas, musicals and concerts. From 2009-2016 he served as the Music Director of Young Victorian Theatre Company in Baltimore, and from 2001-2006 Dr. Collister was the producing artistic director and music director for the Maryland Arts Festival. He has also served as the conductor of the opera studio at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. In addition, Dr. Collister has led the music program at Roland Park Presbyterian church from 1992-1998 and from 2001-present. He also serves as the Chairperson of the Department of Music and Professor of Voice/Opera at Towson University where he has been a member of the music faculty since 1998.

Our 39th Season starts in just a few days! We are excited to welcome you back to a brand new season full of fabulous music. Our first concert is on October 4th at Roland Park Presbyterian Church at 4PM.
We open our 39th season with Handel’s sparkling Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 1 and virtuosic Organ Concerto, Op. 4, No. 1, paired with beloved Bach arias sung by acclaimed bass-baritone Phillip Collister.
Featured is Mache dich, mein Herze, rein, widely regarded as one of Bach’s most beautiful bass arias. Also performing in this concert on organ is Maryland State Boychoir's Stephen Holmes and Michael Vaughn on violin.
An evening of elegance, virtuosity, and profound musical expression launches a remarkable season.
