Our Vision:

All people--across diverse cultures, races, income levels, genders, sexual orientations, political affiliations, and backgrounds--feel they can cycle safely and confidently in every part of Baltimore, and that they have an important role in Bikemore. Public officials are held accountable for their support of bicycle and pedestrian safety. For transportation, recreation and sport, bicycling and walking are viable and safe options. City officials and community members recognize the broad diversity of users and uses that our streets serve: recreation, socialization, commerce, community events and celebrations, work and play, in addition to all modes of urban transportation. Bicycling and walking are embraced as tools to improve our individual health, as well as the ecological health of our region, the Chesapeake Bay, and the planet. Pedestrians and cyclists are a united force in addressing priority health and safety issues, including unsafe traffic speeds and inattentive driving. Organizations across the public and private sectors proactively support cyclists and pedestrians as a positive force for the community. All road users are educated in how to safely use our streets, and Bikemore is recognized as a community resource for bicycle safety information and instruction.

Bikemore is hiring an executive director.

For almost 15 years, Bikemore has organized for a Baltimore where everyone can get where they're going safely, no matter how they travel. Recently, that work included permanent concrete protection for The Big Jump, Mayor Brandon Scott's commitment to building and improving 17 miles of protected bike lanes over the next 3 years, and the launch of Baltimore Families for Safe Streets, the city's chapter of the national, survivor-led Families for Safe Streets movement.

The next Executive Director will:

• Set and update Bikemore's strategy, and measure our progress
• Lead, coach and retain our staff, and strengthen our Board
• Grow our fundraising and our relationships with donors
• Speak for Bikemore in public
• Help launch a new citywide coalition in support of investing in Baltimore's transportation

We're looking for at least five years in nonprofit management, community organizing, urban planning or a related field; a record of managing and retaining staff; and experience building coalitions with partners who don't usually work together.

Jed Weeks, our current executive director, is staying. He's excited to return his full time attention to policy director of Bikemore in Action.

"The final CTP should restore the $360 million cut from Baltimore-area transit and commit the $2.1 billion needed to build the Red Line and BMORE BUS.

Governor Moore is right: Economic mobility requires physical mobility. His transportation budget should demonstrate as much."

Read this excellent Op/Ed from our friends at Central Maryland Transportation Alliance.

Opinion: Maryland’s latest draft transportation plan falls short of the public transit investments needed to drive economic mobility, writes Brian O’Malley.

This year's state capital transportation budget (the CTP) is out.

Bikemore and Central Maryland Transportation Alliance read it and compared it to previous years.

Click through to read our findings.

Bikemore and CMTA read MDOT’s draft FY2027-2032 transportation budget against the plan enacted before it: the Red Line goes unbuilt, Baltimore transit repair is cut, and highway widening and Washington transit rise.

Tomorrow, July 11, at 7PM thanks to our friends at Red Emma's, published authors and artists will be reading and presenting their pieces for the Thanatapathy Limited Literary Magazine!

This project is for our Chesapeake Conservation and Climate Corps Chesapeake Bay Trust member Cora Karim to finish her year through the program and share with folks through art and prose about the intersectionality of environmentalism, race, class, and transportation.

We hope to see new and familiar faces at the event, and copies of the magazine will be available by a “donate-what-you-can” method. If you are unable to grab a copy and would still like to read the magazine, it will be available online at www.thanatapathy.com on July 12 at 4PM.

Thank you, everyone!

This summer has brought a devastating wave of traffic violence to our city's streets, reminding us that infrastructure delays have human costs.

On July 22nd, we will be joining Baltimore Families for Safe Streets at their vigil to honor the lives of 19-year-old Brandon McMurrin and 3-year-old Jordan Bright, killed on the same day on corridors where long-promised street safety improvements may have prevented their deaths.

Our voice is the most powerful tool we have to demand safer streets. Show up and demand action on these corridors now.

RSVP to join at 6:30pm at War Memorial Plaza in front of City Hall:

Bikemore in Action’s endorsements for the Maryland General Assembly!

Senator Cory McCray, District 45
Delegate Regina T. Boyce, District 43A
Delegate Mark Edelson, District 46
Delegate Elizabeth Embry, District 43A
Delegate Robbyn Lewis District 46
Malcolm Ruff, District 41 Senate
Dianté Edwards, District 40 Delegate

The Incumbents:

Senator McCray and Delegates Boyce, Edelson, Embry, and Lewis have reliable voting records on legislation that directly improves transportation in Baltimore.

They consistently vote to increase funding for and maintain increased Highway User Revenues to fund critical projects.

They passed the Sarah Debbink Langenkamp Act to protect cyclists in bike lanes and have sponsored legislation to improve bus lane enforcement and to move toward a comparative negligence standard for vulnerable road users.

They champion the Transportation and Climate Alignment Act—sponsored by Delegate Edelson—which would mandate the state offset the negative effects of major highway expansions by funding offsets like transit, pedestrian, and bike projects.

The Challengers:

Our challengers offer strong platforms that align with Bikemore's vision for a connected, safe Baltimore.

As a Delegate, Malcolm Ruff sponsored legislation creating a state-city partnership to preserve and elevate Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park. His focus on environmental justice and expanding public green spaces directly supports the expansion of trail networks and active transportation infrastructure that Bikemore fights for.

Dianté Edwards has a hands-on record of bringing Complete Streets to life. As head of his neighborhood association in Pigtown, he worked to install speed humps and traffic calming measures. His platform explicitly targets MTA reform, demanding safe and reliable public transit so Baltimore's students aren't forced to wait for unreliable buses in the dark.

Baltimore needs lawmakers who vote to fund the infrastructure our city actually relies on. Early voting starts June 11th. The Primary Election is June 23rd. Go vote.

and endorsements are made through Bikemore’s sibling organization, Bikemore in Action, a 501(c)(4). Bikemore in Action is entirely funded by thousands of small, non-tax-exempt donations from Baltimore residents.
