One simple way parents can improve communication with their children is through active listening—giving their full attention, making eye contact, and allowing children to share their thoughts without interruption. When children feel heard, they're more likely to communicate openly and seek support when needed.

Facility dogs at Maryland Child Advocacy Centers help children feel more relaxed and supported during interviews, therapy sessions, and other services. Their calming presence can reduce stress and help children engage more comfortably throughout the healing process.

Research shows that children under age 4 and children with disabilities face a higher risk of abuse and neglect. These children may be more vulnerable due to their dependence on caregivers and challenges communicating their needs.

At the Maryland Children's Alliance, we support Maryland's Child Advocacy Centers in ensuring vulnerable children have access to services designed to help them heal and thrive.

June is Internet Safety Month 💻

As children spend more time learning, connecting, and socializing online, it's important for families to stay informed about digital safety. Recent national data shows:

▪️ Nearly half of U.S. teens (46%) report experiencing some form of cyberbullying or online harassment.
▪️ More than 1 in 6 high school students report being electronically bullied.
▪️ In 2025, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children received 21.3 million reports of suspected child sexual exploitation through its CyberTipline.

This June, take a few minutes to talk with your child about online safety, privacy settings, and trusted adults they can turn to if something online makes them uncomfortable.
