Strengthening Medical Services for Children and Families

National Children’s Alliance (NCA) has released its 2026 Medical Working Group Report, outlining recommendations to strengthen the medical workforce serving children affected by abuse.

Developed with input from medical professionals, CAC leaders, Chapters, Regional CACs, and national partners, the report highlights strategies to expand career pathways, improve training, support workforce retention, and increase access to specialized medical care.

At Maryland Children’s Alliance, we recognize the importance of building a strong, supported workforce to ensure every child has access to compassionate, high-quality care.

Safe Sleep Starts with a Safe Environment

Every baby deserves a safe place to sleep. Following the ABCs of safe sleep can help reduce the risk of sleep-related infant deaths.

Remember: Babies should sleep Alone, on their Back, and in a Crib or other approved sleep space with a firm, flat mattress and no pillows, blankets, or stuffed animals.

By sharing safe sleep practices, we can help protect Maryland’s youngest children and support families in creating safer sleep environments.

From January through June 2026, Maryland’s 24 Child Advocacy Centers (CACs) served 2,404 children affected by abuse and maltreatment.

The data highlights:

52.7% of children served experienced sexual abuse.

77.9% of children referred received a forensic interview.

Nearly half (48.1%) of children served were ages 11–17.

Behind every number is a child who deserves safety, support, and a path toward healing.

Maryland Children’s Alliance remains committed to supporting CACs across the state as they provide critical services to children and families.

Advocacy is an important part of MCA’s mission.

Maryland Children’s Alliance works to elevate the needs of Children’s Advocacy Centers and the children and families they serve by engaging with policymakers and advocating for a strong, coordinated response to child abuse across Maryland.

By bringing the CAC perspective to the legislative process, MCA helps ensure these important issues have a voice in Annapolis.
