Tonight we held a vigil at North Montford and Orleans Street, where a man was killed in a crash on Christmas.

Two blocks away, 28-year-old Daniel Davis was killed by a box truck driver while riding his scooter on March 12th of this year.

We hold space for these individuals and all killed or seriously injured on Baltimore City roads in 2026.

This includes the man killed by a hit and run driver at 1200 W North Avenue in early January; the man killed by a hit and run driver at 100 Market Place in early February; the child run over and seriously injured near Green Street Academy in mid-February; the woman killed when she struck a tractor trailer on Liberty Heights near Druid Park Drive in early March; the man hit and injured by a driver on Wyman Park Drive by Johns Hopkins in early March; the man struck and injured by a hit and run driver at Washington and Federal in mid-March; and the two people killed in the autocycle crash three weeks ago on Pulaski.

These deaths and injuries are unacceptable, and they are not unavoidable. They a systemic public health crisis that we have the power to solve.

We demand hardened traffic calming on Orleans Street.

We advocate for slower speed limits citywide, mandatory crash-reducing fleet vehicle technology and design, and the adopting of Vision Zero formally as a city.

On March 12th, 28 year old Daniel Davis was killed riding a scooter just south of Orleans Street on North Collington Avenue when he was hit by the driver of a box truck.

Daniel worked at and was a colleague of our board member Kyle Harrer. He loved biking and frequently rode his bike to work.

We are honoring Daniel and other victims of traffic violence at a vigil on Tuesday, March 31st at 6pm at the intersection of Orleans Street and North Montford Avenue, where we will demand safer street designs to save lives.

Box trucks are a frequent killer of vulnerable road users. In addition to better designed roads, we advocate for affordable design improvements to vehicles. Direct vision cab design dramatically improves visibility. Intelligent speed assist limits speeding. Vehicle side skirts and blind spot monitors with pedestrian detection are available as options on many new trucks, and are affordable retrofits to existing vehicles.

Traffic violence is not an accident. It is a systemic public health crisis that we have the power to solve through changes to street and vehicle design.

Please join us to remember Daniel and all those we have lost, and help us fight for a vision of zero deaths on our roadways.

3) Advocating for evidence-based solutions like safe speeds, safer road designs, and safer vehicles, with the ultimate goal of achieving Vision Zero—where no loss of life to traffic violence is acceptable.
