Today we are honored to witness our Past National Chair, Dr. Thelma T. Daley be conferred Papal Honors. She will be Dame Thelma T. Daley of the Order of St. Gregory the Great.
Founded by Pope Gregory XVI in 1831, the Ordee of St. Gregory the Great is an Equestrian Order available to the laity for diligent service to the church and accomplishments that benefit society.

LIVING HISTORY. ✊🏾🖤

There are moments when you don’t just hear history—you stand beside it.

At the Baltimore District Women’s Home & Overseas Missionary Society Annual Mass Meeting, GBS-NCNW was honored to celebrate TWO living history makers who attended the original March on Washington in 1963—including our very own GBS Historian, Julia Winborne! ❤️

More than six decades later, their presence is a powerful reminder that the courage, sacrifice, and determination of those who stood on the National Mall helped shape the ongoing movement for justice, equality, and opportunity.

To have these remarkable women with us—women who were there in 1963 and witnessed history firsthand—is an extraordinary gift. Their stories are not simply memories of the past; they are living testimonies to the power of showing up, speaking out, and standing together.

As we prepare for the upcoming March on Washington, we honor their legacy by continuing the work and carrying the torch forward.

They were there then. Will be there on the 28th and So will we. ✊🏾

Greater Baltimore Section NCNW was proud to stand in support of our Affiliate organization, the Baltimore District Women’s Home & Overseas Missionary Society, alongside our own GBS Chaplain and organization member, Francine Jefferson, during their Annual Mass Meeting!

We were honored to be represented by Terri Mason, 1st VP, Programs; Robin Allen Straiten, 2nd VP, Membership; and our Power UP! Voter Registration Chairs, Tonya Henderson and Patrice Benbow.

Tonya and Patrice shared an important message about the upcoming March on Washington, emphasizing why our collective presence, participation, and commitment to civic engagement matter. When we show up together, we amplify our voices, strengthen our communities, and demonstrate the power of organized action. ✊🏾

A statement from AAP President Dr. Andrew Racine on today’s executive order on U.S. childhood vaccines:

"As measles cases reach a 35-year high in the U.S. and with cold and flu season quickly approaching, today's executive order on vaccines is not only disheartening but dangerous. Instead of ensuring every family can access life-saving vaccines for measles, influenza, RSV and more, federal leaders are once again spreading misleading claims.

Today's executive order is not based on ‘gold-standard science.’ There is no new evidence to justify significant changes to childhood immunization guidance. Dozens of studies involving millions of people show there is no link between vaccines and autism, and yet federal leaders continue to promote this outdated, disproven idea to scare families. Today's executive order will do nothing to support families of children with autism or advance understanding of the condition. The only purpose of this announcement is to sow confusion so that more people doubt the importance of vaccines. Delaying or skipping shots is risky, especially as measles continues to spread and children go back to school.

Vaccine recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics are tailored to the health of children living in the United States and are based on decades of research and systematic tracking of real-world experiences. Pediatricians recommend children receive certain vaccines at specific ages based on when children's immune systems will respond best and when they are most vulnerable to certain diseases. Sometimes this means children will receive a single shot that protects against multiple diseases, or they may receive multiple vaccines at one visit.

On-time immunization keeps our kids and our communities healthy and thriving. If parents have questions about vaccines, I encourage them to talk with their child's pediatrician or clinician.”
