Emergency Medical Services serving the towns of Ballston, Charlton and Clifton Park Beyond emergency response, BLEMS is an active presence in the community.

At Ballston Lake Emergency Medical Services (BLEMS), our mission is to provide compassionate, professional, and timely emergency medical care while engaging with the community we proudly serve. For decades, BLEMS has grown from a small group of volunteers into a respected EMS agency built on teamwork, dedication, and service. From community trainings and school outreach to local events like Truck-or-Treat and safety fairs, we focus on education and building lasting connections with our neighbors. At BLEMS, we don’t just answer calls—we invest in the health, safety, and future of our community every day.

Today, we recognize and thank the dedicated men and women who answer the call when our communities need them most.

On this National First Responders Day, I want to extend a special thank you to the incredible team at Ballston Lake EMS.

Every day, our EMTs, paramedics, and dedicated members demonstrate what it truly means to serve others. Whether responding to a life-threatening emergency, providing comfort to someone during a difficult moment, or simply being there when someone needs help, you make a difference in people’s lives.

Much of what you do goes unseen. The long shifts, missed family moments, late-night calls, difficult decisions, and countless hours of training often happen without recognition. But your dedication, compassion, professionalism, and commitment to our community never go unnoticed.

I am extremely proud of the team we have built at Ballston Lake EMS and grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside such an outstanding group of individuals.

To our partners in fire service, law enforcement, dispatch, and emergency medical services, thank you for the teamwork, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment you demonstrate every day.

And to our Ballston Lake EMS family, thank you for everything you do for the residents of Ballston, Charlton, Clifton Park, and the surrounding communities.

🚌 It’s that time of year again! School buses are back on the road! 🎒

As students head back to school, please slow down, stay alert, and keep an eye out for:

• Children waiting at bus stops
• Students crossing the roadway
• School buses slowing down or stopping
• Flashing red lights and extended stop signs

When a school bus has its red lights flashing, STOP and stay stopped. A few extra seconds of patience can help keep our kids safe.

September is a month of remembrance, reflection, and looking out for one another.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the countless families, survivors, and communities forever changed.

But the number of lives lost as a result of September 11 did not stop growing when that day ended.

Twenty-five years later, responders, recovery workers, survivors, and others exposed in the aftermath continue to lose their lives to cancers, respiratory illnesses, and other health conditions connected to their service and exposure. We must also recognize the mental health toll carried by those who responded, witnessed unimaginable loss, and lived through the days, months, and years that followed, including lives lost to su***de.

September is also Su***de Prevention Month.

For those of us in emergency services, that connection carries particular meaning. Behind every uniform is a person. First responders regularly experience some of life’s most difficult moments alongside the people we serve, and sometimes those experiences follow us long after the call is over.

Asking for help is not weakness. Checking in on a partner, coworker, friend, or family member can make a difference. Sometimes the strongest thing we can do is simply tell someone, “I’m not doing okay.”

This September, Ballston Lake EMS encourages everyone within public safety and throughout our community to take care of one another. Have the conversation. Check on your people. Listen when someone needs to talk. And when you need help yourself, reach out.
