Broughton Memorial Field Day The Schenectady Amateur Radio Association (SARA) and the Schenectady Museum Amateur Radio Association (SMARA) have combined efforts for the ARRL Field Day.

Field Day is the single most popular operating event of the year. The Schenectady Amateur Radio Association (callsign K2AE) and the Schenectady Museum Amateur Radio Association (callsign W2IR) will again combine efforts for Field Day this year. Field Day is an emergency preparedness exercise where amateur radio operators (hams) set up communications in the field using temporary facilities and try

to contact as many other stations as they can. All hams in North America participate over the same 24 hour period. This year the event will start at 2:00 PM local time on Saturday, June 25th, and will end at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 26th. The combined Broughton Memorial FD Group is significant because Henry Broughton originally held callsign K2AE, and his son, William Broughton, originally held callsign W2IR. These callsigns were bequeathed to the respective local club.
