🛹🛹 🛹 SO RAD!! 🛹🛹🛹 to all the skaters, fans, vendors, family and friends who turned out for Strawberry Daze, a DIY skateboarding event at Rotary Skate Bowl at Strawberry Hill Park on Saturday.

The bowl saw ollies, kickflips, aerials and grinds aplenty during the daylong event, along with raffles for skateboards and gear from local skate shops and Thrasher Magazine magazine – plus live music and some truly great pizza.

Bainbridge Island’s skate bowl enjoys iconic status regionwide, and skaters came from all over to test their skills. Donations made through the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation on this most excellent afternoon earned about $1,800 toward maintaining the skate bowl. Thank you, skaters!

“I grew up skating this skate park and it gave a lot to me, and the least I could do is give a little back,” Strawberry Daze organizer Tyler Horner said, “Nothing like skating, playing music with your friends and also, like, giving back.”

Halls Hill Stewards are back for fall: Join the Halls Hill Lookout & Labyrinth Stewards for community and fun, 1-3 p.m. today, Sept. 1 (and first/third Tuesdays through fall).

For September, we’ll focus on sprucing up Halls Hills and getting the space ready for the autumn months. We’ll treat the wood sign, identify areas that could use new plantings, and begin preparing those areas for future planting.

The Trails team has been beavering away on the 200 feet of stout boardwalk that will protect the Cooper Creek watershed and keep the trail passable in all weather. The boardwalk is anchored by stout pilings, augered into place using equipment funded by the Parks & Trails Foundation – terrific stuff, for walkers, hikers and the environment.
