Woohoo! We are thrilled to announce that tomorrow our PAWS team will be out of the center (Friday, June 5th) to celebrate an incredible honor for a special volunteer.

For two years, Alison Mauer, has been a dedicated part of our Youth Mentoring program. We are thrilled that she has been awarded the "Rising Star" Youth Award from Kitsap Community Foundation for 2026! She will receive her award tomorrow at their annual gala supporting philanthropy in Kitsap County.

We will be sharing more of Ali's story and award celebration tomorrow!

We are so proud of you, Ali. Congratulations! 🌠🌠🌠

Meet Alison Mauer, our 2026 Rising Star Youth Award honoree 🌟

At just 16 years old, Ali has already logged more than 200 volunteer hours at West Sound PAWS, and she's just getting started. What began as a visit to the Pleasant Beach Village Adoption Center with a friend turned into a calling.

Ali now works regular shifts greeting visitors, helping match cats with the right families, and mentoring fellow youth volunteers. Her supervisors say her peers look to her for guidance, and that she approaches every task with a sense of responsibility remarkable for someone her age.

She's also helped with fundraising events, socialized cats with behavioral issues, and participated in the beloved Read to a Cat program with local elementary students.

Ali, we are so proud to celebrate you on June 5th. You are the future of philanthropy in Kitsap. 💛

Join us at the Kitsap Celebration of Philanthropy to applaud this remarkable young woman in person.

There is nothing better than hiking Bainbridge! Join our friends at Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation this coming weekend in support of the trails that make our four legged besties wag their tails when you say the magic word (WALK)!

Celebrate National Trails Day, June 6, with a hike on an island trail – and munch a bag of special Trail Mix, courtesy of the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation.

Meet the Parks & Trails Foundation and get your Trail Mix at Gazzam Lake (Marshall Road trailhead), Fort Ward Park (boat launch trailhead) and Grand Forest East (Mandus Olson south), 8-11 a.m. while supplies last.

Thank you to our longtime partners Puget Sound Energy for sponsoring our National Trails Day event.

Support the Lost Valley Trail and boardwalk project with a gift while you're there. Help meet our $10K Challenge Match on National Trails Day, with all gifts matched by Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island up to $10,000 total.

Lost Valley Trail will be the final link in a walkable, cross-island route from downtown Bainbridge Island to Gazzam Lake Preserve. The trail will cross 33 acres of public open space between the Head of the Bay/Wyatt Way and Fletcher Bay Road. It will include 200 feet of elevated boardwalk to protect the Cooper Creek watershed and salmon stream.

The Parks & Trails Foundation is fundraising to complete the trail and boardwalk in time for a fall opening, in partnership with the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District and City of Bainbridge Island.

A lot of days we have small wins, but today we had a HUGE, GIGANTIC, INCREDIBLE, EPIC WIN. A win for the record books for our PAWS family.

Snowball was adopted!

Snowball has left the building!

For FOUR YEARS our small but mighty team of staff, volunteers, and partners at Winslow Animal Clinic, have worked to make her healthy, socialized, and ready for this day.

We are honestly a little in shock that she’s gone, but this adoption shows what happens when you support local shelters like West Sound PAWS. We can have the small successes that lead to big wins like today.

Her adopters have promised to update us on the Queen’s rule over her new domain. We will keep you posted on her progress.

INFJ (Introverted, Needy, Feline, Judger) looking for her forever home!

Meet TRINK! She’s a four year-old lap cat who is afraid of big noises but is willing to tell you what she thinks about them.

She would do excellent in an introverted household with adults and teens. She would be a great gamer buddy (if you wear 🎧) or an excellent work from home companion. She is available at our Pleasant Beach Adoption Center this weekend!

Our Kingston Adoption Center will be closed on Sunday, May 24th for Memorial Day weekend.

Who wants the chaos of kittens when you could arm yourself with an armchair expert! Adult cats often get passed by for the cuteness of a kitten, but they make wonderful and calm additions to families without the sleepless nights and acrobatics!
