For 11 years, Laura has been part of the Mary Lee Foundation family. She may not always be the first person to speak up, but she has a gentle spirit and a special appreciation for the people and experiences that make Mary Lee feel like home.
Laura especially enjoys the events and activities at Daybreak. She says, “They are always fun and I have a good time.” Giving her and others opportunities to spend time together and make memories. One of her favorite memories is a trip to Six Flags, a day she still remembers fondly.
Someone who has made a meaningful difference in Laura’s life is Tameka Stidom, the Assistant Director of Individualized Skills and Socialization (ISS). Laura shared that Tameka makes her feel included. “She always asks me how I’m doing, and that is really nice of her.” Sometimes, something as simple as asking someone how they are doing can make all the difference and for Laura, those moments of connection mean a lot.
Laura is also working toward becoming more responsible and has a goal for her future that may surprise you: she would love to learn how to drive! She already enjoys walking up and down Lamar, and she looks forward to the possibility of having even more independence someday.
Outside of Mary Lee, Laura enjoys working on her scrapbook, window shopping, and visiting coffee shops. She has spent 11 years growing, learning, building relationships, and creating memories here and we are so grateful that Laura is part of our Mary Lee Foundation family.
Laura’s story is a beautiful reminder that being included, being noticed, and simply having someone ask, “How are you doing?” can mean more than we realize.We are proud to walk alongside Laura as she continues to grow, dream, and look toward the future.
