Trinity Center Austin Trinity Center addresses the basic needs of unhoused and low- income individuals, providing support and helping resolve homelessness.

Trinity Center was founded by volunteers and is based on a model of action through voluntarism. Since its inception in 1999 Trinity Center has evolved from a Sunday-only ministry in borrowed space to a separately-incorporated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, incorporated in April 2000, that offers a variety of programs and activities for the homeless population throughout the week. Trinity Center’s mission is to serve the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of people experiencing homelessness and poverty in Austin, Texas. Trinity Center’s programs are based on a neighbor-to-neighbor approach that fosters trust and community between those who have housing and a steady income and those who do not. We offer hospitality, compassion and companionship, financial assistance, support for women, food, and a place of worship and spiritual renewal for those who have lost the comforts of home and the feelings of care and concern from others. Being a small organization allows us to offer a personal, familiar touch as we work with our neighbors each day. We greet each other as neighbors instead of as providers and clients. We treat our neighbors with dignity and respect. In fact, we feel very proud of the manner in which our staff and volunteers “lead by acceptance,” resulting in neighbors who feel acknowledged and understood, have a sense of ownership of Trinity Center, and consider it their community center. Neighbors can rely on us when they have nowhere else to go.

$At Trinity Center, our Prescription Assistance program helps neighbors access and pay for medications when cost or other barriers make it difficult for them to obtain what they need.

This is Jeffrey. Last week, he came to Trinity feeling stressed and worried because he urgently needed an important medication. In situations like his, timely access to medication can be crucial and may help prevent the need for a hospital visit or worse.

Our team provides prescription assistance during our regular operating hours. Henry, who also oversees our ID Assistance program, does an incredible job guiding neighbors through the process, making sure each step is handled with the appropriate urgency, and creating a safe, welcoming space where they can share their needs and receive clear instructions.

When we spoke with Jeffrey, he told us how much stress he had been carrying that day. He said he felt relieved knowing he could go to the pharmacy and get the medication he needed. While the process was being finalized, Jeffrey was also able to rest in our day-sleep area and enjoy a meal during our Cooling Center hours.

Before leaving, he shared: “Thank you for being so patient. I sure do need it (prescription), and it will make me feel better. Thank you.”

Sometimes, the impact of what we do is found in small moments like this—when someone knows where to turn and has someone to guide them patiently through a difficult moment. 🩵

For three months, our neighbors had a safe place to escape the extreme heat, cool down, and take care of themselves. They could shower and get clean clothes and underwear, enjoy a hot meal at 4 PM., and stay hydrated with water, Gatorade, and electrolytes. They could sleep throughout the afternoon if they wanted to, watch movies, do art like coloring, read, use the computers or phones, or simply be here—inside, safe, and able to give their minds and bodies a little bit of ease and rest.

❤️THANK YOU!!❤️ to all the partners, groups, volunteers, and staff who made this possible. Through their time, resources, donations, and support, we were able to keep our doors open longer and provide a safe place during these hottest hours of the summer.

We will continue listening to our neighbors and finding ways to respond to what they tell us they need.
This place—and every service offered—means so much to someone struggling while living outside. And for many of our neighbors, it means even more than that. It can mean a chance. A little light of hope. A push forward when moving forward feels especially hard to do on their own. We’re grateful we could be that place this summer. And we’ll keep showing up. ❤️

Over 6,000 visits in three months of Cooling Center hours. ❄️

As an enhanced Cooling Center, we didn’t only offer a safe, air-conditioned place to be during the hottest hours of the day. We offered showers, clothing, meals, cooling and hygiene items, refreshments and hydrating drinks, ID assistance, bus passes, and other resources that positively impacted our neighbors’ ability to care for themselves.

📣Today marks two important things:

1. It’s our last day of Cooling Center hours. As we return to our regular operating hours, 9 AM to 1 PM, we’re reflecting on what these past three months have meant—not only in the services provided, but in the hours of safety, comfort, rest, and community made possible for our neighbors during another Texas summer. 🩵

2. starts today! Reflecting on the impact of the Cooling Center also brings up just how important it is to continue offering these resources to our neighbors. We had incredible support and love from our community this year to make the Cooling Center happen, and we hope to do it again next summer. Over the next 10 days, we have an opportunity to come together as a community and support initiatives like our Cooling Center, but also all of the services, resources, and opportunities Trinity provides to help our neighbors meet their daily basic needs.

Every year, to support our Cooling Center operations, we've welcome two seasonal employees to serve alongside our full-time staff. They do an amazing job helping make sure our extended afternoon hours run smoothly, and we truly couldn’t do what happens here during the summer without the support of a bigger team.

This year, their support went beyond helping with daily operations. They also brought their own skills and services directly to our neighbors.

📸 #1 Timothy, a deacon from Seminary of the Southwest, brought another kind of care to our Cooling Center this summer: a listening ear and pastoral support for any neighbor who wanted it.

As an interfaith organization, Trinity Center welcomes and respects people of all faiths and those who don’t practice a faith at all. Timothy has offered neighbors a space to talk about whatever is on their minds—faith, what they’re going through, what gives them hope, or simply life. Sometimes they talk about God or the things that bring them joy. Sometimes they pray. And sometimes they simply sit together in quiet. 🤲

📸 #2 You might recognize this face from somewhere! Many of our longtime neighbors knew him back in 2023 as ‘Batman,’ thanks to his famous Batman shirt and f***y pack—but we’ve always known him as Sean! Sean first came to Trinity Center as our AmeriCorps member in 2023, and this summer, he returned to join our Cooling Center team!

Sean has been supporting our current program by offering ID assistance during the afternoon hours. This has been so beneficial for neighbors who may not be able to make it in during the mornings, when we normally offer this service. Having more flexible hours gives them another opportunity to get the support they need with obtaining birth certificates, IDs, DPS appointments, and TABC permits.

Thank you both for being incredible team members, for the care you’ve shown our neighbors, and for being so much fun to work with—but especially for the unique ways you each gave your time, talents, and yourselves to our community. 🤎

Last week, some amazing members of Impact Austin visited us during our cooling center hours to provide a meal for our neighbors. They helped sponsor the meal and volunteered their time to plate and serve it! 🫶

🩷These amazing ladies brought so much love and care, not only to preparing and serving the meal, but also to connecting with our neighbors one-on-one. They truly engaged with everyone, asking questions, chatting, and getting to know the people they were serving. It made for such a special afternoon!🩷

is a newer partner of Trinity Center. They recently gifted us one of their annual grants to support our operations, including our cooling center. But the care and commitment of their members to the organizations they support goes beyond financial contributions. Volunteering is another beautiful way of showing love for our mission, and we were so happy to welcome them to Trinity Center.

We also loved seeing their members have the opportunity to connect with one another while serving together. We can’t wait to have them back—and to welcome even more Hula Austin members to volunteer and serve alongside us! THANK YOU🩷

We were one of the fortunate recipients of the 772 Hot Weather First Aid Kits that Streets Medics Austin created to help alleviate the heat and care for the health and well-being of our unhoused community this summer. 🧦🩹🪥🫗

We only heard great things from the neighbors who received these kits, and that’s because they were so thoughtfully designed with the specific needs of people spending time outdoors in high temperatures or for long periods of time. Every item was intentionally selected to support their physical health, mental well-being, preventative care, hygiene, and so much more. 💛

Thank you, , for considering Trinity for these lifesaving kits for the neighbors who visit us and, at the same time, for contributing to our cooling center program efforts. We distributed more than 100 kits! ☀️🙌

And a huge thank you to everyone in your organization who helped build the kits, transport them, and provide the funding to make them possible. We appreciate you!
