Trinity Center Austin

Trinity Center Austin Trinity Center addresses the basic needs of unhoused and low- income individuals, providing support and helping resolve homelessness.

https://stdave.shelbynextchms.com/external/form/63a3897e-8e6b-41a2-bf74-ac269315ca5d Trinity Center grew from the concern of parishioners of St. David's Episcopal Church for people experiencing homelessness and living in shelters or on the streets near the church. Trinity Center was founded by volunteers and is based on a model of action through voluntarism. Since its inception in 1999 Trinity Cen

ter has evolved from a Sunday-only ministry in borrowed space to a separately-incorporated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, incorporated in April 2000, that offers a variety of programs and activities for the homeless population throughout the week. Trinity Center’s mission is to serve the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of people experiencing homelessness and poverty in Austin, Texas. Trinity Center’s programs are based on a neighbor-to-neighbor approach that fosters trust and community between those who have housing and a steady income and those who do not. We offer hospitality, compassion and companionship, financial assistance, support for women, food, and a place of worship and spiritual renewal for those who have lost the comforts of home and the feelings of care and concern from others. Being a small organization allows us to offer a personal, familiar touch as we work with our neighbors each day. We greet each other as neighbors instead of as providers and clients. We treat our neighbors with dignity and respect. In fact, we feel very proud of the manner in which our staff and volunteers “lead by acceptance,” resulting in neighbors who feel acknowledged and understood, have a sense of ownership of Trinity Center, and consider it their community center. Neighbors can rely on us when they have nowhere else to go.

Happy Sunday 👐🏽! This year, at our annual Barbara Jordan fundraising, we had the honor of celebrating our Trinity Streets churches and school partners, reflecting on the ministry that laid the foundation for what is now Trinity Center.

We are so grateful for all our partners that continue to positively influence our neighbors through Sunday worship and meals shared in community. 🧡🧡

We are always so grateful for every opportunity to make Women’s Day on Mondays even more special for our female neighbors. 🩷

H.A.L.O. (Hearts, Active Listening, and Outreach) is a nonprofit organization started by two students from the University of Texas who, after spending many hours volunteering with our unhoused neighbors, realized that while essentials like food and hygiene items are incredibly important, genuine human connection is just as meaningful. They chose Trinity Center as the place to host their women’s discussion groups, creating a supportive and judgment-free environment where women can openly share their thoughts, experiences, and stories.

All student members of H.A.L.O. have done an amazing job making these spaces feel welcoming, safe, and comforting. They bring delicious food to share, along with fun activities like bracelet-making and coloring, helping create connection and community through conversation and creativity.🎨

Thank you, H.A.L.O., for listening to the needs of our community and responding in such a thoughtful and meaningful way. Our neighbors truly look forward to seeing you, catching up, and building those special connections every time you're here ✨🩷

Movies and popcorn are a Friday tradition at Trinity! 🍿🎬

At 10:30, we play a movie in the main space, serve popcorn and a drink, and neighbors can relax and enjoy a fun movie. The Men’s Clothing Closet 👖also takes place on Fridays, so it’s a great way to wait while their names are called to shop.

Today, we also want to recognize our 2025 honoree, Jonathan, who has been making popcorn on Fridays since 2018! In addition, he helps with the clothing closet and breakfast service. Exceptional volunteer!! We are very thankful for his dedication and support.👏

Over the past few months, we’ve been connecting with team members from Austin Police Oversight, learning more about their work in receiving community feedback on interactions with the Austin Police Department and exploring ways we can collaborate to better support the neighbors we serve each day. 👂📝

They recently hosted their first information session at Trinity Center, where they shared an overview of their office, their role in public safety in Austin, and how the complaint process works. It was a great introduction for our neighbors in a safe and welcoming environment, with opportunities to ask questions one-on-one and engage in meaningful conversations. Muffins, snacks, and hygiene items were also provided.

We’re grateful to offer spaces like this where our community can learn about available resources and stay informed. We look forward to continuing to grow this partnership with APO and to having them present in our space more regularly as they listen and respond to community feedback.👏

🤝Today, we’re highlighting an incredible partnership we’ve built this year with Saint Mary Catholic Cathedral🤝

John, a representative from Saint Mary, is now working closely with our ID Assistance program to support neighbors in job searching and career placement. Recently, John met with Chareen, whom we had previously assisted in obtaining vital documents. Together, they worked on her resume, reviewed best practices for job searching and applying, explored useful platforms and tools, and even submitted a few applications!

We are so grateful to be able to support our neighbors one step further after completing the ID process. We know how challenging, time-consuming, and overwhelming job searching can be, especially with limited resources, and we’re happy to now offer this added support.

We’re deeply thankful to John for volunteering his time, knowledge, and encouragement. 💛 While this service is still in its early stages and offered in a limited capacity, John has great ideas to help grow the program and expand its impact, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.

We’re rooting for Chareen and will continue to check in and support her however we can!👏👏

Trinity Center was present at the first-ever K*T Fest on Saturday! The festival brought together local leaders, artists, and community members for meaningful conversations, live music, and opportunities to learn more about what’s happening in Austin and how people across different fields continue to make our city thrive.

It was incredible to see so much interest in Trinity Center and in ways to support our unhoused neighbors. They helped us create hygiene care kits that we are now distributing, including uplifting messages and notes. 🧼🪥🩵 It was a meaningful way for families and kids to engage with us while doing something that makes a difference. ✨We made many great connections and had wonderful conversations! Attendees also found their volunteer match, and we can’t wait to welcome new volunteers and supporters in what’s ahead for Trinity this year.

Thank you to for creating such relevant, engaging, and fun spaces in our city!

Our Barbara Jordan Gala was such a special night, and we’re excited to share a few highlights!

✨We honored our Trinity Streets church and school partners, the foundation of what is now Trinity Center, and celebrated the incredible impact they continue to make through Sunday worship and shared meals in community.

✨Trinity Center co-founder Doug Bell reminded us that from the very start, our mission has been simple and powerful: to love our neighbors—and that purpose continues to guide everything we do today.

✨We were also honored to welcome David Gray from the City of Austin, who spoke about the importance of compassionate, community-driven support for those experiencing homelessness.

The night was a celebration of the impact we made over the past year—including operating a cooling center for the second summer—and the $210,000 raised through this year’s event! We are so immensely grateful for our supporters, long-time advocates of Trinity Center, volunteers, sponsors, and those who weren’t able to attend but continue to show their love in one way or another. 🤎🤎

If you weren’t able to attend this special night, it’s not too late to support and contribute to our fundraising efforts!
