Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day the last enslaved Black Americans learned they were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

It is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice. It is also a reminder that freedom is not just a moment in history, but a continuing commitment to equity, dignity, and opportunity for all people.

While Maine is predominantly white, Black Mainers continue to face significant disparities within the criminal legal system. As we honor Juneteenth, we recognize both how far we've come and the work that remains.

At ME-RAP, we believe every person deserves dignity, compassion, and the opportunity to thrive. Today we honor the history, contributions, and resilience of Black Americans.

On Tuesday, June 16, 'See the Artist, Not the Use' was held at Lithgow Public Library.

Presented by Maine’s Project to Prevent Prescription Drug and Opioid Overdose-Related Deaths, the art show and community conversation featured artwork from members of our community.

It was a beautiful reminder that creativity, dignity, and connection are part of recovery too.

Thank you to the artists, everyone who came out in support, and Lithgow Public Library for hosting.

Nar-Anon is a confidential support group for family members and friends who are navigating the challenges that can come with someone else's addiction.

If you've been thinking about attending, this Friday is a great time to give it a try. You don't need to have all the answers, and you don't need to go through it alone.

Every Friday, 5–6 PM at the Access Center.

If you need naloxone, you don't have to wait for the Access Center to be open. Free naloxone is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the clear box located next to our front door at 47 Water Street in Augusta.

Whether you're carrying it for yourself, a friend, a family member, or simply to be prepared in an emergency, having naloxone on hand can make all the difference.

No appointment. No questions. Just access.

There's a lot happening this week at the Access Center. 💛

Whether you're looking for recovery support, creative activities, community connection, or just a place to belong, there's something on the calendar for you.

We're especially excited to see artwork from members of our community featured in "See the Artist, Not the Use," an art show and community conversation taking place June 16 from 5–7:30 PM at Lithgow Public Library. Presented by Maine's Project to Prevent Prescription Drug & Opioid Overdose-Related Deaths, the event showcases artwork from people in recovery across Maine and creates space for conversations about recovery, stigma, healing, and hope.

Back at the Access Center, we'll be gathering throughout the week for recovery meetings, creative activities, community clean-ups, and opportunities to connect. Join us Wednesday evening for Recovery Night: Ember Nights, where we'll spend time around the campfire building community and supporting one another.

Friday brings Frank God It's Friday and Mastermind Open Mic, with food, music, creativity, and connection.

We'll wrap up the week on Saturday with a Backyard BBQ from 3–5 PM. Come enjoy good food, good company, and a chance to connect with others in a welcoming recovery community.

🚐 Health on Wheels will be at the Access Center today from 12 PM–4 PM!

In the video, you'll hear about just some of the services available, including wound care, primary care, reproductive health services, HIV and Hepatitis C testing, medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), and help navigating healthcare needs.

One of the things we love most about this program is that you don't need insurance to access services. Healthcare should be accessible, and Health on Wheels helps make that possible.
