This two-part program will examine the generic and sometimes hidden components of a successful helping relationship. In the first session we will examine what social workers can learn about helping from healers and shamans in other cultures and discuss the ways that we can implement these universal approaches in our work. In the second half we will discuss how to effectively use the skills of critical thinking in our work, to effectively evaluate and choose treatment techniques, make effective and accurate treatment plans, and evaluate treatment resources and programs.

Join Jacob D. Stone, ACSW, LSW (Ret.), for a refresher on the Code of Ethics (and more!) in this webinar on the ethical management of boundary challenges. Attendees will learn to pinpoint relevant sections of the Code, to utilize a problem-solving algorithm to resolve ethical dilemmas, and to understand the ways in which technology has created new categories and possibilities for boundary violations.

This past weekend, Ben wore his NASW cord with pride as he graduated from his BSW program at the University of Maine. Ben will be attending college in New York with a goal of returning to Maine as a Registered Play Therapist, providing critical services to children and families in Aroostook County.

Ben shared with us: "I am incredibly grateful for the advocacy and support NASW provides to social work students, and I look forward to staying connected with the association as I continue my education and grow with the profession."

Congratulations, Ben! We are so grateful to be a part of your continued journey and NASW will be here to support you every step of the way!

Leave your well wishes or graduate school advice to Ben in the comments!

The values of the profession, as articulated in the NASW Code of Ethics, ask us to honor the dignity and worth of our clients, to respect their autonomy, and to practice competently. In this workshop, we will address the idea that some situations may make ethical competence impractical or impossible, and approaches to these situations.
