Congratulations to our member, Sargent, on two major achievements in its 100th year in business! The employee-owned contractor was ranked #375 on Engineering News-Record’s 2026 Top 400 Contractors list and also received the 2026 ASCE Maine Kitty Breskin Award for the Exit 35 interchange project in S**o. The award-winning project, completed in partnership with the Maine Turnpike Authority, HNTB, and Stantec, showcased innovative engineering solutions for a complex new interchange on I-95. Well-deserved recognition for a team that continues to make an impact across Maine and beyond!

Last week, MBTA Board member Pat Sughrue of Cianbro testified before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Workforce Protections to promote the use of education, corporative programs, and leading indicators to enhance and measure industry leading health and safety programs. Thank you, Pat, for furthering the industry and MBTA mission of supporting project safety!

Cianbro’s Pat Sughrue, senior corporate director of health, safety & environmental, recently testified before the U.S. House Committee on Education and Workforce on behalf of Associated Builders and Contractors ( ABC National), highlighting how the construction industry can proactively address emerging safety challenges.

“Enforcement alone cannot build an industry-leading safety culture. Prevention, innovation and collaboration are key,” Pat said.

At Cianbro, we believe:
-- Safety starts with engaged leadership and a culture of trust
-- Leading indicators help identify risks BEFORE incidents occur
-- Protecting our most valuable asset, our people, is the goal of every safety program

We are now a week past National Work Zone Awareness Week, but MBTA and its members know this should not be a one-week effort. Every month, every week, every day should be spent thinking about how everyone should drive safely through areas where folks are working hard to make a living.

MaineDOT shared many stories of everyday Mainers that just want to go home to their families after a long day at work. This is MBTA member, Brian Allen, from Pike Industries telling his story.

These are real stories that should not only be shared during a specific week of the year, but every day. Please take MaineDOT's pledge today at www.mainedot.gov/pledge as a show of solidarity to help keep Maine roads safe.

Work zones are active job sites where crews are working just feet from traffic to keep our roads and bridges safe. Every day, these workers count on drivers to stay focused and make safe choices behind the wheel. When you approach a work zone, ease off the gas, stay alert, and be patient. A few extra seconds can make all the difference in helping everyone get home safely.

Check out the MaineDOT page to hear their stories.
