The Maine Recovery Action Project is a peer led recovery advocacy organization.

We spent last Friday afternoon in Washington County with some folks from Downeast Recovery Support Center!

They shared insight on the barriers to housing, transportation, and employment, their experience with the county’s treatment court, and the immense impact bringing more services Downeast would have on the community.

We also got to check out the free library that ME-RAP’s Washington County Youth Caucus set up outside the DownEast Recovery Support Center. 📚💛

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day, a day to remember and honor the lives of those we have loved and lost to overdose and to stand with those who are grieving.

As we reflect today, we want to make sure our community is aware of Maine's Good Samaritan Law. No one should ever be afraid to call 9-1-1 during a suspected overdose. The law was intentionally designed to encourage people to seek lifesaving medical care.

Knowing your rights could save a life.

Our hearts are with everyone who has been impacted by overdose. We remain committed to doing all we can to help save lives.

📣 ME-RAP is hiring a Center Organizer!

We’re looking for a compassionate, dependable person to join the team at the Access Center in Augusta and help us build a welcoming community rooted in recovery, harm reduction, dignity, and support without judgment.

The Center Organizer will: Support daily programs, meetings, and recovery services, provide one-on-one recovery coaching, help with community events and cleanups, work alongside our canvassing team on Project Doorstep, and help keep the Access Center safe, accessible, and welcoming.

💵 $20 per hour, up to 40 hours per week
📍 In person at the Access Center in Augusta
🌙 Evening and weekend availability required
❤️ $358 monthly wellness stipend, or $535 for employees with dependent children
🏖️ 10 paid holidays, two weeks of paid time off, flexible scheduling, and professional development opportunities

We’re looking for someone committed to both harm reduction and recovery who can connect with people across many different experiences and stages of life. Lived experience with recovery or harm reduction is strongly encouraged and deeply valued.

At ME-RAP, we believe that our communities know what they need better than anyone else. We have been lucky to spend the summer traveling around Maine and hearing from many of these individuals, including two sessions at our own Access Center!

Last Saturday we spent the morning with some of the wonderful folks from the Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition - MPAC both in person and virtually to discuss how substance use and incarceration intertwine and impact many of the folks our organizations work with. Our organizations share a common goal to amplify the voice of lived experience to build better systems.

The group shared their experiences navigating life both during and after incarceration for themselves and their loved ones, and what they want to see change:

🤝 Creating a cohesive continuum of case management starting when individuals are charged until after they are released
⭐Increased youth outreach to let adolescents know what resources are available to them instead of sending them to youth detention centers
🚨Limiting access of criminal records to courts and law enforcement only
👪 More support for parents that are incarcerated in being reunited with their children upon release
📄Legislation that automatically seals criminal records once someone is eligible
