If so, the Penobscot County Opioid Settlement Fund Committee wants to hear from YOU🫵

This brief, anonymous survey aims to better understand community perspectives on substance use challenges, existing services, service gaps, and areas where additional support may be needed.

Last month Maine received approval for a federal waiver from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) that will allow jails and prisons to bill MaineCare for certain medical and behavioral healthcare services provided to individuals who are incarcerated.

This waiver will reduce the financial burden of current services such as medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder and other programs not yet offered, including:
💼 Case management
🏥 HIV and Hepatitis C treatment
👪 Family planning services

While the waiver likely won’t go into effect until 2028, we hope that implementation will ensure that more opioid settlement funds are being directed toward community-based services.

Recovery was out in full force in Lewiston! 💜

Thank you to the Lewiston Area Public Health Committee for bringing the community together for such a powerful celebration of recovery, connection, and hope.

One of our favorite moments was helping a community member register to vote for the first time. She believed a past felony conviction meant she couldn’t vote. In Maine, a past felony conviction does not disqualify someone from voting.

Recovery means reclaiming every part of our lives, including our voice and our vote.

We recover and we vote!

Approximately $250,000 is available to support projects addressing the impacts of the opioid crisis in Hancock County.

A hybrid informational meeting for prospective applicants will be held October 8 from 5-6 PM. Attend in person in the Commissioners Meeting Room at the Hancock County Courthouse, 50 State Street in Ellsworth, or join on Zoom:

Last week ME-RAP had the opportunity to attend The Clean Slate Initiative's Lived Experience Summit in Atlanta! 🤩

We got to meet champions of Clean Slate initiatives from across the country and learn more about the work being done to create pathways for earned second chances.

One in four Mainers have a past conviction record. That record follows hundreds of thousands of Mainers even after they have paid their dues, standing in the way of better paying jobs, safe housing🏠, and education opportunities🏫 not just for them, but for their families.

Automated record sealing for those who have demonstrated lasting change would help Mainers get back to work 💼, support their families, strengthen communities 🏘, and boost the economy 💸.

We are grateful to Clean Slate Initiative for inviting us to this event! ME-RAP is committed to helping pass Clean Slate legislation in the 133rd Maine Legislative Session. We all benefit when our neighbors have access to earned second chances. ⭐🤝

Well, that’s a ME-Wrap! 🤩🎬

With the help of the folks at Lakes Region Recovery Center, we completed our final listening session of summer 2026 yesterday! ⭐💙

As one participant noted in the session, “those who have the least, tend to give the most.” This group highlighted the gaps in basic needs security in rural parts of Cumberland County and how communities cannot find stability and well-being without investment in resources and services.

Thank you, Bridgton, for having us and spending the afternoon with us. Everything shared this summer will help shape our policy platform for the upcoming legislative session!💫⚖
