Assistance League® of Greater Placer was well represented at the recent Rods & Relics Car Show in Lincoln, with the help of several dedicated members! Pictured are Ellen Gardner, Karyn Wolff, Carol Schultz, Janice Carey, and Jayne Campbell. Not pictured are Kirsten Garrard, May Lyau, and Brenda Woodman, who also helped out. Many people stopped by, and while the children had a fun time trying their hand at the co****le game, the parents learned about all the services and programs offered by our chapter. Everyone had a great time, and we have some prospective new members! Be sure and look for us at the car show next year!

The June meeting of Assistance League® of Greater Placer was held at the Lake of the Pines Clubhouse in Auburn. In addition to being updated on our Chapter news, members had the opportunity to enjoy a delicious luncheon while being treated to a wonderful choral presentation by “The Mid-Century Mamas”, made up of Barb Burdick, Sharon Carl, Cathy Jordan, Jan Krug, and Gail Shelby, and accompanied on keyboard by Valerie Harrison. The production was produced and directed by Janet Patten and Barbara Wilbur. What talented members we have!

Assistance League® of Greater Placer was proud to present the Ada Edwards Laughlin award from last year's recipient, Susan Macor, to Barbara This, pictured on the left. The award is named for Assistance League’s co-founder, who worked quietly behind the scenes to help grow Assistance League into a national organization. It honors members who show up year after year; not for recognition, but because their chapter needs them.

Barbara can be found behind the scenes doing whatever needs to be done, always with a cheerful smile and positive attitude! She is a hardworking, can-do team player who has served our chapter since 2014. As office manager, she keeps the office clean and organized, and even painted the whole office and annex with the help of her husband, Steve. She makes all of the centerpieces for our monthly meetings, and she is a dedicated member of the Home Goods team in the Thrift Shop.

Congratulations, Barbara, on the well-deserved award! We are fortunate to have your talents and enthusiasm as a member of Assistance League® of Greater Placer!

We are so proud to announce that KamDyn Hardin, has graduated from Wheeling University. KamDyn was one of our scholarship recipients in 2022 where he graduated as salutatorian from Independence High School in Roseville. As part of our renewable scholarship program, KamDyn received a Chromebook through the the Charlie Gieseler Technology Fund, which was created to provide Chromebooks to students who need them in our Scholarship Program. KamDyn was mentored by member Dea Hogg who stayed in contact with KanDyn during his college career as he maintained the required GPA to renew the scholarship. Congratulations KamDyn!

We love our Assisteens! They are always ready to help those in need in any way they can! If you know a teen that would like to be of service to their community, tell them about Assisteens.

Assistance League® of Greater Placer Assisteens® spent time at Rock Creek Care Center playing games with residents. Assisteens is a youth auxiliary which provides hands-on volunteer and leadership opportunities for teens (grades 7-12) to develop a sense of community responsibility, self reliance, volunteerism, and leadership. For information about joining Assisteens, contact [email protected] or visit https://chapters.assistanceleague.org/chapter/greaterplacer/assisteens

The Assistance League® of Greater Placer's Reaching Out Program is always ready to help those in need! Recently, committee chair Caryl Day-Johnsen delivered 16 pairs of shoes, 17 pairs of jeans, and 36 pair of underwear to the Seventh-Day Adventist Program for the Unhoused of Placer County. Pictured with Caryl are Pam Haddad, Kathy Wisted, Paul Esposito, and Rita Hensley from the Seventh-Day Adventist program. A big thank you goes out to Big 5, who gave us a 25% discount off the price of the shoes! We appreciate their generosity!
We strive to make a difference to those in need in our local communities. To learn more about our chapter and other programs, visit assistanceleague.org/greater-placer/

On Wednesday, May 27, at Mary Kuehne’s home, 9 new members and their mentors were celebrated at Assistance League® of Greater Placer’s End of the Year luncheon. The new members introduced themselves and shared the philanthropies that they are becoming involved in. While enjoying a lunch of a chicken croissant sandwich, kale and cashew salad, and pasta salad, we heard lots of laughter and felt the excitement of getting involved with the organization. Welcome new members to ALGP!

This month, we’re shining the spotlight on two vibrant members, our Thrift Shop Women’s Shoe Team—Linda Starkey and Frankie Hey. These incredible volunteers bring heart, dedication, and a joyful spirit to everything they do.

With warm smiles, Linda and Frankie keep our shoe section beautifully organized and ready for customers. They carefully sort every donated pair by size and season, ensuring each shoe is clean, spotless, and perfectly displayed.

Week after week, they truly make a difference in our shop. We are beyond grateful for the time, energy, and love they pour into their work.

Next time you visit, stroll by the shoe display—you just might catch them setting out the perfect pair that will brighten your day!

Thank you Linda and Frankie!!!👟💙

There was much to discuss at the Assistance League® of Greater Placer’s May meeting! Reports were given on the Strategic Planning Committee’s cluster meeting results, the Bingo event, the Rods and Relics Car Show, Placer Veterans Stand Down, and Big Day of Giving. Non-Philanthropic Committees took sign-ups for positions needing additional help, and Philanthropic Summer programs were highlighted. The meeting ended with the induction of our new Board of Directors: Paulette Benedict, President; Patti Swan, President-Elect; Janine Boyer, Vice President Chapter Services; Terren Powell, Vice President Membership; Joanne Kutzman, Vice President Philanthropic Programs; Janice Noland, Vice President Resource Development; Janice Carey, Vice President Marketing/Communications; Jamie Hershman, Treasurer; Kathy Barale, Chapter Secretary. A big THANK YOU to all of them for accepting their leadership roles for the coming year! We are all looking forward to another great year of service to our Placer County communities!
