Auburn Charter Alert

Auburn Charter Alert Keeping Auburn’s citizens posted on Measure A, a hastily written City Charter ballot measure that would permanently reshape our local government.

Measure A is a hastily written City Charter that could permanently reshape local government and grant broad new powers to the City Council. It is being rushed to the ballot by local politicians without meaningful public review. An independent analysis of the measure would show that:

- According to the City Attorney, a Charter could lead to more costly lawsuits, more costly elections, and more

special interests meddling in our local affairs.

- Measure A allows City Council members to pay themselves thousands of dollars in extra compensation.

- Measure A allows the City Council to impose higher fines and penalties on taxpayers than under current law.

THANK YOU to everyone who liked this page, made phone calls, knocked doors and help us defeat Measure A! Auburn will remain as it has been - the jewel of the foothills - thanks to your efforts. Great work everyone!!

Auburn voters appeared to decide the fate of their city’s government structure Tuesday night, with early results indicating that Measure A, the initiative for Auburn to become a charter city, failed, according to the Placer County Office of Elections.

Auburnites, today is the day - please get out and VOTE NO on MEASURE A!!! Polls are open until 8pm, so gather up your friends and family and make your voices heard.

Auburn has been working fine for 125 years - VOTE NO on MEASURE A to stop the radical changes that would make Auburn more like Stockton, San Francisco and Bell, California.

06/05/2012

FOUR former Auburn mayors, our City Clerk and the founder of the League of Placer County Taxpayers came together to send this message to voters:

"Say no to corruption and cronyism. Say no to frivolous and costly lawsuits. Say no to ‘hidden taxes’ and allowing politicians to give away taxpayer funds. This Tuesday, Vote NO on Measure A."

Dear Neighbor, For the City of Auburn, tomorrow is the most important election in a generation. A “No” vote on Measure A will keep Auburn as it has been for more than 125 years—in a stronger financial position and with a higher quality of life than just about every other city in California. ...

When you're in a hole, STOP DIGGING. More good advice from former Auburn Mayor Bud Pisarek in the AJ:

"The fact is that there is no good reason to make Auburn more like the financially crippled charter cities San Francisco, Vallejo, Stockton, Folsom, or Sacramento."

VOTE NO on A!!!

Unfortunately, it feels like those who are pushing the proposed Auburn Charter (Measure A) are digging a tunnel to nowhere - and sticking taxpayers with the bill.

Bud Pisarek was the Mayor of Auburn in the 80s - and he researched the pros and cons of converting Auburn to a charter city, a la Measure A. His conclusion? "I found that the risks and costs associated with such a change far outweighed any benefits. The same holds true today." VOTE NO ON MEASURE A and read his message to voters here!

Dear Neighbor, As the Mayor of Auburn back in the 1980s, I researched the possibility of becoming a Charter City. I found that the risks and costs associated with such a change far outweighed any benefits. The same holds true today. Join the Fight to Preserve Auburn and Vote No on Measure A ...

Auburnite Ralph Petri gets it right in the AJ: 'Measure A is a poorly formulated attempt at increased power by the Auburn city council.' Tell your friends and family to VOTE NO!!

Publius (a pen name for either Alexander Hamilton or James Madison) said it best, “If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary” (The Federalist No. 51).

06/03/2012

Please take a minute today to reach out to your friends and family and remind them to vote NO on Measure A on Tuesday. Auburn has been working fine for 125 years, and a radical restructuring of our city government will only benefit the politicians who put Measure A on the ballot.

It’s crystal clear that Measure A will let politicians give away taxpayer funds with no strings attached, as Patricia Grenfell points out in the AJ. So why won’t the people pushing Measure A come clean about it? VOTE NO ON A!

During a back and forth with Todd Stenhouse of Preserve Auburn, Kevin Hanley once again denied that Measure A enables local politicians to give away taxpayer funds. At that moment, Stenhouse presented Hanley with a report from Auburn’s City Attorney showing Hanley’s assertion to be false. I decided ...

Hank Gonzales is a former Auburn Mayor, a small businessman and a proud citizen. His take on Measure A? “Any objective review of the measure shows that it invites problems to our small town.” Vote NO on A and read the rest of Hank’s piece below. http://auburnjournal.com/detail/209663.html?

This won’t happen in Auburn under current law. It could if Measure A passes. Measure A is a risky experiment we can’t afford. Vote No!
