What could the future of Downtown Auburn look like? More public art. Inviting public spaces. Places for performances and events. A downtown with an identity that feels distinctly Auburn.

Placer Community Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to support development of the Downtown Auburn Arts and Entertainment District Master Plan. Combined with $10,000 each from the City of Auburn and Downtown Business Association, the grant brings the total investment in the planning effort to $30,000.

The plan will create a roadmap for future arts, cultural and placemaking investments, helping ensure individual projects work together toward a shared vision for downtown.

We’re proud to help bring community partners together to invest in Auburn’s future.

Today, Placer Community Foundation CEO Veronica Blake gave public comment before the Placer County Board of Supervisors on an encouraging affordable housing tool.

We’re beginning to see developers in some Specific Plans propose affordable housing beyond the required 10%. That’s worth celebrating.

Meeting Placer County’s rapidly growing housing needs will take partnership, creativity and a willingness to go beyond minimum requirements. We appreciate the developers stepping forward with solutions and hope to see this momentum continue.

Every community has people who quietly make a difference by bringing others together, investing in their community and inspiring others to give.

Sue Thompson is one of those people.

We’re revisiting Leading with Love, a look at Sue’s leadership and the many ways she has contributed to the Placer County community.

As food assistance needs continue to grow across Placer County, local donors are stepping up to help.

Through Placer Community Foundation, generous donors and the Community Needs Fund have come together to provide $57,500 to Feeding the Foothills to help strengthen its capacity to serve the growing number of neighbors who need a helping hand.

Last year, Feeding the Foothills distributed 12 million pounds of pantry staples and produce, an 8.5% increase over the previous year. Behind those numbers are working families, seniors, veterans, students and others who are doing everything they can to make ends meet.

We’re grateful to the donors who stepped up to meet this urgent need and to Feeding the Foothills for the vital work they do across our region.
