Placer County depends on teachers, healthcare workers, service providers and other essential workers who help our communities function every day. But for many of them, the cost of housing makes it difficult to live in the same community where they work.
That challenge is at the heart of Placer Housing Matters.
The coalition brings together community leaders, service providers, faith communities, housing advocates and residents who are positioned to help move this complex issue forward. Together, they are working to elevate local needs, build understanding and advance solutions that can expand access to safe, stable and affordable housing.
Over the past year, that work has gained momentum. Placer Housing Matters hosted California housing leaders for conversations about both the progress being made and the challenges that remain in Placer County. The coalition has also championed the County’s commitment to facilitate the development of 1,300 affordable housing units over the next five years.
The next challenge is turning those plans into completed homes. That means identifying the local funding needed to close financing gaps and support projects through to completion.
Through continued advocacy, education, partnership and community engagement, Placer Housing Matters is helping move our community from recognizing the need to acting on it.
