September is DSP Appreciation Month, and at InCommunity, we’re taking the opportunity to spotlight the exceptional Direct Support Professionals who support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) every day.

DSPs are there for the big milestones and the everyday victories—from learning new skills and pursuing employment goals to building independence, making choices, exploring new interests, and being active in the community.

Their impact can look different from person to person, but the goal is the same: helping people live meaningful, fulfilling lives with greater choice and independence.

In a couple weeks, we’ll be introducing you to some of the incredible DSPs who make this work possible and giving you a glimpse into who they are, what motivates them, and why they do what they do.

A special shoutout to our friends at USI for their incredible commitment to InCommunity!

Over the month, the USI team has rolled up their sleeves for a yard clean-up project, helped individuals build valuable technology skills through a Digital Confidence Workshop, and will be joining us next Tuesday to celebrate a Garden Restoration project kickoff and celebration.

When planning their company-wide volunteer initiatives, USI thought of InCommunity, and we couldn't be more grateful. Thank you for your continued partnership, kindness, and willingness to serve alongside us. Your support helps make our mission possible and creates meaningful opportunities for the people we serve every day.

👨‍🍳🎓 **Caps, Aprons & New Culinary Adventures!** 🎓👩‍🍳

On Wednesday, August 19, InCommunity’s Art & Food adult day program in Marietta celebrated an exciting milestone with a special !Cap & Apron Ceremony!

We’re thrilled to congratulate the 6 talented individuals selected to participate in the Attainment “Look ’n Cook” Food Program, a 16-week program designed specifically for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Throughout the program, participants will learn easy-to-follow recipes and valuable cooking skills—with the ultimate goal of preparing delicious meals independently in their own homes! 🥗🍳🍝

A special shout-out to InCommunity Board Member and volunteer Richard Thorne, who will be leading these culinary explorers throughout their 16-week adventure. Thank you, Richard, for sharing your time, knowledge and passion!

Please join us in congratulating our newest culinary stars! We can’t wait to see all that they’ll learn, create and cook along the way.

💙 Have you planned for their future?

August is National Make-A-Will Month, a time to reflect on how planning ahead can be one of the most meaningful ways to care for the people we love.

For parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family, and friends of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), creating a trust for your loved one, as well as a thoughtful estate plan can help provide peace of mind and long-term support for a loved one’s future.

It’s never too early to ask important questions:

💭 Who will advocate for my loved one?
💭 How can I help provide for their future needs?
💭 Have I shared my wishes with those who may support them?
💭 What kind of legacy do I want to leave?

You can also consider including InCommunity in your estate plans through a planned gift through tools like wills, trusts, and annuities to provide future support while receiving potential tax benefits. A planned gift helps ensure individuals with I/DD continue to have opportunities to live, work, learn, and thrive in their communities for years to come.

At InCommunity, our HOST (Homes Offering Support & Training) program offers a unique residential model where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) live in the private homes of carefully selected HOST providers who become more than caregivers—they become extended family.

Together, they share meals, celebrate holidays, take vacations, and navigate everyday life while empowering individuals to build independence, pursue their goals, and remain active members of their communities. Many of these life-sharing relationships last 15 to 20 years, creating lifelong bonds built on trust, dignity, and belonging.

HOST isn't just about providing a place to live—it's about creating a place to call home.

🏈 An InCommunity Moment: Building Connections Beyond the Field 🏈

Our friends at Greater Atlanta Christian School (GAC) Football welcomed individuals supported by InCommunity for a memorable community outing filled with teamwork, connection, and Spartan pride!

During the visit, individuals had the opportunity to watch the varsity team practice, watch their football drills, enjoy a highlight reel, and share lunch with senior players. The athletes also took time to talk about what football means to them, sharing lessons about teamwork, dedication, friendships, and being part of something bigger.

The most meaningful moments came when individuals we support volunteered to share their own experiences. They spoke about feeling welcomed, included, and proud to now be a part of the Spartan football family.

We are grateful to Greater Atlanta Christian School Football for creating a space where individuals of all abilities can connect, participate, and experience the power of community.

This is what inclusion looks like—building relationships, creating belonging, and celebrating what we can accomplish together. 💙🏈

Support While You Wait: Family Support Applications Open August 10

Do you know a family who has a loved one with an intellectual or developmental disability (I/DD) who is waiting for waiver services?

For many families, accessing needed supports can take time. While they wait, InCommunity’s Family Support Services program provides supplemental funding opportunities that may help eligible individuals access meaningful resources such as therapies, community activities, adaptive equipment, and other supports that promote independence, personal growth, and quality of life.

Applications for new applicants for the 2026–2027 fiscal year open Monday, August 10, 2026 and will be available through the InCommunity website.

If you know a family member, friend, neighbor, coworker, or someone in your community who may benefit from Family Support Services, please share this information with them. A simple share could help connect a family with resources that make a meaningful difference.

Together, we can help individuals with I/DD and their families access opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.
