Sun up to sun down, you were there. ☀️

For this weekend of gratitude, we have a very big thank-you for the individuals, teams and businesses who showed up to volunteer at our United for Youth Block Party.

You hauled. You set up. You directed traffic. You answered questions. You helped kids find their way around. You jumped in when something needed to be done — and you kept going, even when the sun was doing its absolute best to wear everyone out.

To Cigna Healthcare for sponsoring the Volunteer Reception area and every individual volunteer who spent the day with us: thank you.

You helped create the kind of event where families could simply show up, have fun and feel welcomed.

That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because people like you show up.

And we are so grateful you did. 💙

As our Week of Gratitude continues, we are recognizing the volunteers who helped make the School Supply Drive possible.

Thank you to everyone who sorted supplies, packed backpacks, organized materials, and helped wherever they were needed. We are especially grateful to the businesses and organizations that hosted workplace drives and packing events, including Eaton, Rotary Club of Asheville, and Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community!

Your time and effort helped provide local students with the supplies they need to begin the school year ready to learn. Thank you for showing up for our community.

Gratitude looks a lot like a room full of packed backpacks. 🎒

As we kick off a week of gratitude, we're taking a moment to thank the partners who helped make this year's School Supply Drive possible.

A huge thank-you to Aeroflow Health, our premier drive sponsor, for helping us make sure thousands of local students could start the school year with the supplies they needed.

And to First Citizens Bank, thank you for making sure the people doing all that packing had a place to sit down, grab a meal, recharge and keep going. A well-fed volunteer is a happy volunteer!

From the first backpack to the very last box, this event takes a community. We're incredibly grateful for the businesses and organizations that make it possible for us to show up for local students.

Thank you for being part of it. 💙

We need you to come out to the 7 Brew Coffee opening at 167 Smokey Mountain Parkway!
Free coffee this weekend, and United Way staff will be there to greet you with a smile.

Best part: the coffee is free, and any donation will go immediately to youth opportunities in Buncombe County and ongoing Hurricane Helene recovery. Coffee with a real cause — swing by and say hi!

A quick reminder: Double-check that you’re signed up for BC Alerts! ⛈️

Rain and storms are possible this weekend as approaches. While current projections indicate significantly less rainfall than we experienced during Hurricane Helene, localized impacts are still possible. Staying informed and prepared is important, even when a storm is not expected to bring widespread impacts.

If you think you’re already signed up for Buncombe County alerts, take a moment to double-check. Having access to timely emergency notifications and important updates can make a difference when conditions change.

📲 Sign up for BC Alerts:
Text BCReady to 67283 or visit [www.buncombenc.gov/bcalerts](https://www.buncombenc.gov/bcalerts).

Please remember: Never drive through flooded roadways or over downed power lines. Stay weather-aware, look out for your neighbors, and take care of yourselves this weekend.

Over the weekend, Buncombe County may see 2-4 inches of rain and gusty winds from Hurricane Isaias. Black Mountain, Swannanoa, Broad River, and Fairview areas may experience heavier rainfall.

This storm is not projected to bring widespread flash flooding, major landslides, or catastrophic impacts like those we saw from Helene, but localized impacts are possible. Never drive through flooded roadways or over downed power lines.

Always have 72 hours of supplies on hand and review preparedness tips at www.buncombeready.org.
