Well that's a wrap for 2026! Thank you to the Arlington High School staff and students who assisted us in taking down the Flags for Heroes display. The Arlington Rotary Club raises money each year to award a student from Arlington High, Arlington Catholic and Minuteman $2000 in scholarship. This year we raised over $7000 towards the scholarship fund honoring Anne Mahon Powers and Kathleen Kiely-Dias. Thank you for all who supported our efforts!

Last week, District Governor Pooja visited the new Rotary E-Club to officially welcome us to District 7930 and celebrate our official charter.

She congratulated Charter President Lori Becker and the charter members on their vision and dedication in establishing the club. DG Pooja highlighted the E-Club’s potential as a blank canvas for innovative service projects and voiced her support for their efforts to create a lasting community impact.

She also noted the success of the District this year, citing increased membership and the reinstatement of several Interact clubs, along with improvements to organizational processes such as a centralized address and email for the district treasury.

We extend our sincere thanks to DG Pooja for being our speaker and for your inspiring words.

A special moment at Arlington EATS this week: several Arlington High School class of 2026 grads who volunteer with EATS stopped by in their caps and gowns for a quick, celebratory visit. 🎓

Teen and young adult volunteers are a vital part of our community. Their time, energy, and compassion make a real difference in our work. And, we love that Arlington EATS feels enough like home that they chose to stop by and share this milestone moment with us. 💚

Our river herring migration is well underway, and the birds have noticed! For our this month, we're featuring this photograph by Colleen Garrigan of a great blue heron waiting for river herring at the spillway of the Scalley Dam at Horn Pond in Woburn.

Herring are important to our ecosystem, providing food for many animals, including bald eagles, herons, herring gulls, striped bass, and snapping turtles. Our herring monitor volunteers have been counting herring since April and will continue through June.

Right now, because of the dam and a statewide drought, the herring are having trouble making it up the spillway at the dam and into Horn Pond. The Horn Pond fish passage, set to be built later this year, will solve this problem, giving herring easy passage into Horn Pond!

You can learn more about the river herring at www.mysticherring.org.

The June issue of Rotary Magazine is out now! 🎉💻

In this issue we are excited to bring you highlights from this year's Rotary Youth Competition finals and to share the incredible stories behind our Rotary Young Citizen Award winners.

On the day, we came together to celebrate Rotary Young Citizens, Rotary Young Musicians and Rotary Young Chefs from across GB&I, all under one roof at the Grange Theatre in Hartford, Cheshire.

The event, hosted by Danny Brown, Rotaract Great Britain and Ireland incoming Chair-elect, proved to be a spectacular showcase of musical and culinary talent and youth social action🌟🏆🎶👩‍🍳

The Rotary Young Citizen Awards recognise those who demonstrate positive citizenship, personal achievements, or otherwise stand out as exceptional for their contribution to society. Abbie Breakwell, Team GB Paralympian and now Rotary GB&I Ambassador was welcomed back to host the Rotary Young Citizen Awards. The tennis star won the Rotary Young Citizen WheelPower Sport Award back in 2018.🎾✨

Alongside our celebration of youth in Rotary, we also share news of the new UK wide 'National Conversation', which is a large scale listening exercise designed to capture feedback from people about their experiences of community life, plus we bring you details of the new look Rotary GB&I online shop which provides professionally designed materials to support your club events and campaigns.

We also bring together your inspiring stories from a handful of projects from across Great Britain and Ireland🙌
