Juneteenth is a time to reflect and act.

It marks the end of slavery in the U.S.—but not the end of anti-Black racism. Anti-Blackness continues to shape systems, narratives, and identities, including the experiences of Black Indigenous Peoples whose histories and voices have too often been erased.

To learn more, read The Erasure of Black Indigenous Peoples: A Hidden History of Resilience and Resistance which explores the unique barriers Black Indigenous Peoples face and the strength they have shown in preserving their identities and cultures. https://f.mtr.cool/gelxigkpcg

Justice requires more than acknowledgment—it requires action. Join us in confronting anti-Blackness, ending the erasure of Black Indigenous Peoples, and supporting a future where all Native Peoples are seen, respected, and represented.

Humboldt County says Juneteenth “serves as a reminder that work remains to be done to ensure equitable access to opportunity for black residents, including the pursuit of strategies that improve access to education, economic development, housing and land-based initiatives.” 👉 Read more on Redheaded Blackbelt.

Continuing our celebration of local Q***r owned businesses, check out The Nail Room!

While you might have seen her onstage or hosting community events as The Outlaw Jamie B, Gini Noggle is also the owner of The Nail Room in the Jacoby Storehouse on The Plaza in Arcata. She’s been a nail tech since 2017, and specializes in gel polish manicures, Gel-x extensions and her favorite thing to do: pedicures!! Treat your feet, people! Does she do fancy hand-painted nail art? Absolutely not. 😜 But her ability to make you comfortable and laugh makes up for her lack of mad art skillz.😜She’s got room on her books for new clients looking for self-affirming self care. You can see her work and DM for appointments on her Instagram

Beautiful! Nature is sooooo Q***r!

The dunes bloom for everyone! 🌸 The images in this collage have been taken at or near restored areas at the Humboldt Coastal Nature foredune. 🌈 Together, the native flora and fauna that inhabit these incredible coastal ecosystems create a diverse assemblage of species that bring color, joy, and health to the dunes. 🌱 We hope to see you out here soon! 💓
