Last year's gala sold out🎟️.

Caregiver OneCall is hosting the 2nd Annual All Our Love for Caregivers Gala, hosted by emcee Dave Clark KTVU , in Pleasant Hill, California.

More than 7 million adults in California are family caregivers, nearly a quarter of the state, according to AARP's 2025 data. Most are doing it quietly, on their own, often at 2am with nobody to call.

This gala is how we keep our free 24/7 hotline open for every one of them.

One night. One cause. A room full of people who get it.

Halloween has rules nobody writes down. Walk up the steps. Say the magic words. Hold out your bag like everyone else. For a lot of kids with disabilities, that's three ways to get left out before the candy even shows up. A teal pumpkin on a porch means something simple: come as you are, no script required. Some houses are already doing it. More should.

If you're caring for a parent, spouse, child, or anyone you love, this is for you. Real talk, real resources, and a room full of people who get it.

Before we remember R.J. Mitte only as the son on Breaking Bad, there’s another part of his story worth knowing: he was a young caregiver, to himself and his mother.

After a car accident left his mother paralyzed, Mitte helped care for her and his baby sister while living with cerebral palsy himself. His responsibilities included hands-on care and helping support his family financially.

He died on October 12 at just 34. His work extended beyond acting, through disability advocacy, his roles with United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and his leadership of the Mitte Foundation.

He understood receiving care, too. Shriners treated him through much of his childhood, and he later helped other families learn about the care available to their children.

That matters to me as a caregiver advocate. A person can need support and also be the person everyone else depends on. Disability does not erase someone’s ability to love, provide, make decisions, or care for others.

His advocacy also asks something of us: Are we helping people build lives they want to live? Are we listening to their choices? Are children with disabilities seeing possibilities for themselves?

Care should protect dignity, independence, connection, and joy. Families deserve support that makes those things possible.

My heart is with his family and everyone grieving him. May we remember the person behind the role, and continue the work of making care and inclusion real.
