My name is Rehaam Patterson, as a 2023 high school graduate it was difficult for me to see myself as a college student because of the crime and violence plaguing my family life and community. During my senior year three of my peers were murdered, I didn’t really know them but it had a devastating impact on me. College, it appeared more like planning my funeral was in order! My own mother said I would end up in jail just like my dad. Although the teachers encouraged me to pursue trade school because (as they put it) I wasn’t college material, although I felt in my hearts of hearts with a little support I could be about it.

Needless to say, I started attending Futures’ college prep and college tours. I graduated with a 3.0 and was accepted into Texas Southern. During the tours I met people just like me, I felt if they could do it so could I. Thanks to God and Futures’ I can now see the future God has for me!

High Impact - Our students are taking many paths after graduation -- both high school and college. Your donation sponsors Futures’ college tour, a student in trade school, helps pay off student loan debt, and ensures our students can follow the paths they envision for their futures.

The methodology behind Futures’ Inc. college prep and college tours is firmly rooted in the belief that any young person regardless of race, ethnicity or economic background can attend and successfully complete college if he or she has a desire.

Pictured are my boys Corey and Devon, (pictured ) is a 5th grade version of Corey attending Future’ first college tour in 2005, he recently graduated the University of San Francisco with his Master’s, Devon pictured the day of his high school graduation is now in his senior year at California State University Monterey Bay.

Now in the agency’s 25th year, and 12th college tour, Corey and Devon has subsequently attended each tour. The tours were designed to instilled in our youth that college is attainable, and they bought it! As good friend Dr. Marshall always “The more you know, the more you know”.
