We don't find the latest government-sponsored propaganda targeting the humanity of immigrants at whitehouse.gov/aliens funny at all.

We fervently denounce the White House’s latest attempt to sow fear, divide our communities, and make a mockery of immigrants being violently taken from our communities. We are here to say that immigrants are not aliens who “walk among us.” Immigrants are parents, siblings, neighbors, colleagues, and friends. We will not stop fighting for a country where all of us are free to live without fear that we will be witch-hunted by the government, arrested, indefinitely detained, or deported because of the color of our skin or the country we were born in.

Diego's departure left a hole in Pat's heart. But she turned her heartbreak into meaningful action with a donation to ILJ Network in Diego's honor.

Pat knew she couldn't help Diego, but she wanted to help other children like him—and their families—receive the trustworthy and experienced legal representation they urgently need to keep them together, out of detention, and safe from deportation.

We hope you will consider donating today in honor of someone in your own life whose disappearance has left an empty space behind.

Our Co-Executive Director, Alba Jaramillo, is quoted in the latest update from the Arizona Daily Star on Karla Toledo's unjust detention: "We cannot trust that this administration will provide due process, nor can we trust that they will refrain from using violence to meet their arrest quota," Jaramillo wrote in a text message. "Immigrant youth are in danger of government sponsored kidnappings. We must demand that Congress act swiftly to pass legislation to protect DACA youth."

Karla Toledo remained in detention Friday at the Eloy Detention Center but was awaiting release after posting bond.

Early Monday morning, ICE agents in Tucson forced their way into DACA recipient Karla Toledo’s home—without a warrant—and arrested her.

Karla has lived in the United States since she was an infant. She has no criminal record. She is, however, someone who has dedicated her life to helping other immigrants.

ILJ Network Co-Executive Director Alba Jaramillo joined Karla’s family and other community members to protest outside the ICE office where agents were temporarily holding Karla.

“I am so angry and heartbroken,” says Alba. “We were able to get the media there, U.S. Representative Adelita Grijalva, the Mexican Consulate, and a City Council member. But nothing we did succeeded in stopping ICE.

“The violence, and the number of weapons—they treated Karla as if she were a dangerous cartel leader,” Alba continues. “They used a van and an entire fleet of ICE vehicles to transfer one woman to Eloy [about an hour north of Tucson].

Eloy is widely considered the deadliest immigration center in the country.

Federal agents rushed into a Tucson home Monday morning and took Karla Toledo, 31, into custody as she was getting ready to leave for work, her family says.

Our Removal Defense Unit provides attorneys at 16 ILJ sites nationwide with the resources, training, and expert guidance they need to keep their immigrant clients, like Jayson, out of ICE detention and to instead remain safely, securely, and lawfully in the United States.

Your gift today can help ILJ attorneys defend immigrants facing unjust detention and deportation: https://njfon.kindful.com/

More than a year ago, our government granted Jayson parole—permission to live and work in the United States—while his asylum case moved slowly through the courts. Since that time, Jayson had never missed a check-in, had followed every rule, and had become a valued member of the community.

Jayson placed his full trust in the United States. And yet he was arrested and handcuffed when he showed up for a routine ICE check-in. He spent three months in ICE detention before his attorney at The Legal Clinic - ILJN Hawaiʻi was able to obtain his release.

Jayson is free—for now—while he and his legal team continue his fight for asylum and justice. You can help him—and the hundreds of immigrant clients like him across our network—by donating today.

The Biden administration effectively ended the practice of detaining immigrant families; the Trump administration brought it back with a vengeance this past January.

Vengeance is the appropriate word. While the administration works furiously to overturn the protections for immigrant children in place since 1997, they are also requesting Congress to fund up to 30,000 family unit beds in their new budget.

This is wrong. And it is being done in our name.
