🚨 Take Action Now: Stop Political Retaliation Through Immigration Enforcement 🚨

A new provision buried in the reconciliation bill would give ICE $350 million to escalate arrests, detention, and deportations in communities labeled as “non‑cooperating” with federal immigration enforcement. This is deeply concerning.
👉 The measure could:

- Target cities and states the administration disagrees with politically.
- Create a massively expanded category of immigrants eligible for arrest—including people who were simply charged, even if never convicted.
- Incentivize prolonged detention by restricting the ability to release people—even when legally allowed.
- Give broad discretion to federal authorities with little transparency or accountability.

⚠️ This opens the door to:

- Immigration enforcement being used as a political weapon.
- Increased risk of racial profiling and wrongful detention—including U.S. citizens.
- Fear in communities that could stop local governments from prioritizing public safety.
- Families, asylum seekers, and long-time residents being swept into enforcement actions.

This provision is moving quickly toward a vote—with little public scrutiny.
🛑 This undermines due process, and threatens our communities.

👉 Take action NOW: Contact your Members of Congress and urge them to OPPOSE this provision:

🌈 June is Pride Month 🌈

As we celebrate Pride, we honor the strength of LGBTQIA+ communities—especially immigrants who have left their home countries in search of safety and acceptance.

We stand with LGBTQIA+ immigrants and their families. Everyone deserves to live freely, safely, and authentically.

As Lin-Manuel Miranda reminds us:
“That nothing here is promised, not one day. And love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside. Now fill the world with music, love and pride.” ❤️

Just Neighbors condemns the language of the recent government website on aliens. We need to stop talking about immigrants like they’re something otherworldly—like they don’t belong here, like they exist outside of humanity. Calling people “aliens” or treating them as if they’re foreign creatures isn’t just inaccurate—it’s dehumanizing.

Immigrants are human beings. Full stop.

We don't find the latest government-sponsored propaganda targeting the humanity of immigrants at whitehouse.gov/aliens funny at all.

We fervently denounce the White House’s latest attempt to sow fear, divide our communities, and make a mockery of immigrants being violently taken from our communities. We are here to say that immigrants are not aliens who “walk among us.” Immigrants are parents, siblings, neighbors, colleagues, and friends. We will not stop fighting for a country where all of us are free to live without fear that we will be witch-hunted by the government, arrested, indefinitely detained, or deported because of the color of our skin or the country we were born in.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor those who gave everything in service to our nation.

We also reflect on the ideals they defended—freedom, opportunity, and dignity. These same ideals guide our work every day as we provide immigration legal services and advocate for individuals seeking to build a life here.

We are proud to support immigrants whose resilience and contributions continue to shape our communities and strengthen our country.

Today we remember—and recommit to serving others with purpose.

💚 May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

For many immigrants and refugees, mental health is deeply shaped by uncertainty, fear, and the stress of navigating complex systems—often while carrying past trauma or the pressure of staying safe and keeping family together.

At Just Neighbors, we recognize that legal support is also a form of care. When people have access to clear information, trusted guidance, and someone who listens, it can ease the weight of uncertainty and help restore a sense of stability and control.

This month, we also invite our supporters to care for their own well‑being in simple, sustainable ways:

🌿 Take breaks from difficult or overwhelming news
🤝 Stay connected with people you trust
🫶 Offer yourself the same patience and compassion you give others
🌱 Make space for rest, even in small moments

Healing and justice both take time. Thank you for being part of a community that shows up with care—for yourselves and for others.
