When is an accident not accidental?

Human rights archeologist and author Dr. Gabriella Soto examines two recent tragic deaths of immigrants in ICE custody that were ruled homicides by medical examiners, and connects them to the U.S. border enforcement strategy that deliberately leverages the hostile desert environments of the U.S. Southwest to ensure that migrants attempting unauthorized border crossings come into extreme harm.

You will also hear from community leaders, witnesses, and advocates who share their perspectives and discuss meaningful ways for us to demand changes in immigration policy to uphold immigrants’ rights and protect human lives.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Domestic violence affects people of every age, background, and community. This month, we recognize the strength of survivors, remember those impacted by abuse, and recommit ourselves to building communities where everyone can live in safety and dignity.

For immigrant survivors, seeking help can be especially challenging due to language barriers, financial concerns, fear, isolation, or uncertainty about their legal options. No one should have to face abuse alone.

At Just Neighbors, we believe that access to information, legal support, and welcoming communities can help create pathways to safety and stability.

Join us this month in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and helping ensure that our communities are places of hope, respect, and belonging for all.

Children shouldn’t have to face immigration court alone.

A recent CNN report takes us inside a Texas immigration courtroom where children—including toddlers as young as 3—appeared before an immigration judge. Some had no attorney to help them navigate the complicated legal system.

One 13-year-old boy, facing removal to Honduras, broke down and told the judge: “I have no one. I have nothing.”

Every child deserves to understand their rights and have meaningful access to legal support.

At Just Neighbors, we believe access to immigration legal services can make a life-changing difference for children and families.

Migrant children as young as 2 are showing up at immigration courts nationwide, many without attorneys, to try make their case to stay in the US and avoid deportation.

Tomorrow, Senators Chris Van Hollen, Dick Durbin, and Alex Padilla will host a forum highlighting the devastating impact of recent attacks on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and the urgent need for pathways to permanent residence.

The forum will feature voices from labor, faith communities, business leaders, policy experts, and individuals directly impacted by TPS, sharing real stories about families, workers, and communities facing uncertainty as protections are stripped away.

At Just Neighbors, we see every day how TPS holders contribute to our communities, raise families, build businesses, and strengthen our local economy. They deserve stability, dignity, and a chance to build their futures without fear.
