⚖️ Tell Congress to Support Independent Immigration Courts

Immigration courts make decisions that profoundly affect individuals, families, and communities. Yet unlike other federal courts, immigration courts remain housed within the Department of Justice, where policies, procedures, and priorities can shift from one administration to the next.

The Real Courts, Rule of Law Act of 2026 would establish an independent Article I immigration court system, helping to:

✅ Strengthen impartial judicial decision-making
✅ Promote consistency and predictability in case outcomes
✅ Increase transparency and accountability
✅ Protect due process rights
✅ Restore public confidence in the integrity of immigration proceedings

This is not about changing immigration policy. It is about ensuring that immigration cases are decided fairly, independently, and according to the rule of law.

📢 Take action today. Ask your Members of Congress to cosponsor the Real Courts, Rule of Law Act of 2026 and support an immigration court system dedicated to impartial justice.

We were honored to participate in Unity in the Community: Culmore Health & Wellness Hub Launch as a vendor and outreach partner. Just Neighbors shared information about our immigration legal services and connected with families seeking trusted legal support.

Despite the heat and rain, more than 30 community organizations came together to provide food, resources, wellness services, and activities for local families, demonstrating the strength and resilience of the Culmore community.

Thank you to all the partners who helped make this event such a success. We're proud to be part of a community committed to serving our neighbors.

The immigration system we have today didn't happen overnight. Many of its harshest policies stem from laws passed 30 years ago, AEDPA (the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996) and IIRIRA (the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act).

Volunteer to Support Access to Citizenship in Maryland!

The Maryland Governor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs is launching Citizenship Maryland, a statewide initiative helping eligible Marylanders on their path to U.S. citizenship.

They are seeking volunteers for a naturalization clinic on Saturday, August 22, from 12:30 – 6:00 PM at the Wheaton Recreation Center.

Volunteer opportunities include:
✅ General event support
✅ Pro bono attorneys, paralegals, and law students
✅ Immigration attorneys/DOJ-accredited representatives
✅ Interpreters (Amharic, Chinese, French, Korean, Spanish, Vietnamese, and other languages)

No long-term case commitment is required, and all volunteers will receive training and orientation.

Every child deserves a fair chance to be heard—especially when their safety and future are on the line.

Right now, the Trump administration is moving to end legal representation for more than 20,000 unaccompanied children, making it easier to put children into immigration court without an attorney by their side.

In our work, we see every day how legal representation changes lives. We have helped children who arrived alone after experiencing abuse, violence, abandonment, and other traumatic circumstances. With legal support, these children have been able to find safety, stability, and hope for the future.

This isn't just about policy. It's about children in our communities. It's about fairness, due process, and basic human decency. And it's work that happens year-round, every day, as advocates stand beside vulnerable children when they need it most.

For more than two decades, Congress has supported legal services for unaccompanied children through bipartisan funding. Now is the time to protect that commitment.
