Show solidarity with our colleagues from the University of Michigan Professional Nurse Council as they bargain for their contract by wearing red on Wednesdays, and save the date for their Rally at the Regents Meeting Thursday, June 25 from 2-6pm.

Speaking of Union solidarity, Fridays are for UMMAP! Wear your UMMAP t-shirts and pins to show UMMAP pride and visibility. Snap pictures for social media and send over to [email protected] and if you still need member t-shirts, we can coordinate to get them to your worksite, just send an email on over and we'll go from there.

And while we're talking about our fellow unions, Mondays are green for AFSCME, Tuesdays are purple for SEIU Healthcare Michigan, Wednesdays it's red for University of Michigan Professional Nurse Council, Thursdays are maize for UPAMM - United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, Fridays are teal for UMMAP, and Saturdays are coral for the House Officers Association (UM) ✊

UMMAP celebrates Medical Scribe Week with the dedicated professionals who help keep patient care running smoothly.

(Note: various hospital networks and scribe companies celebrating during different weeks in May or June.)

Medical scribes play a vital role in supporting providers, focusing on documentation accuracy and allowing physicians to focus more time on direct care for patients. Traditionally, a physician's job was direct patient contact and care. The advent of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) created an overload of documentation and clerical responsibilities that slowed physicians down and pulled them away from actual patient care. To relieve the documentation overload, Medical Scribes step up.

It's World Orthoptic Day today so a big shout out to the
Orthoptists who are part of UMMAP is in order!

An orthoptist is a healthcare professional who specializes in diagnosing and treating disorders of eye movement and coordination. Orthoptists work closely with ophthalmologists to evaluate and manage conditions that affect how the eyes work together, including problems with eye alignment and binocular vision.

There are only a few hundred Orthoptists in the US, including 5 who work locally at Kellogg Eye Center. We see you, and we are grateful for the work you do!

UMMAP stands with our coworkers as they fight for a fair contract with Michigan Medicine. Safe staffing, fair wages, respect on the job, and quality patient care matter to every worker across our health system and affect every patient we serve.

Solidarity means recognizing that our struggles are connected and means showing up for each other! We are proud to support nurses as they work towards a fair contract!

Whether arriving at the scene of a medical emergency or helping displaced families during a natural disaster, EMS professionals bring clinical expertise, compassion, courage and resilience when minutes matter most.

Today, on EMS Recognition Day, we honor members of the EMS community who regularly go above and beyond what’s expected. It’s a day to give gratitude to first responders for their unwavering commitment to serving their communities.

First celebrated on May 20, 1996, National Psychometrist Day recognizes psychometrists and their profession. Psychometrists administer and score psychological and neuropsychological tests.

To complete their work successfully, Psychometrists must have strong interpersonal and analytical skills and must have accuracy and standardization at their core. They must be able to accurately score assessments and provide detailed behavioral observations.

Bravo to UMMAP Psychometrists yesterday, today, and every day!

National Speech-Language Pathologist Day is today, May 18 and recognizes the invaluable work of speech-language pathologists (SLPs) who help individuals overcome communication challenges.

These professionals play a crucial role in our communities, providing support to children and adults alike in expressing themselves and improving their speech and language skills.

The Month of May is also National Speech-Language-Hearing Month, a time to celebrate and acknowledge the profound influence and dedication of individuals within the field of speech-language-hearing pathology.

Let’s hear it for all the UMMAP members in this field! Thanks for your commitment, resilience, and the impact you make on the lives of others!
