PDC 95 is officially underway!!!

Good morning from the Richard M. DeVos Center, where Michigan's EMS Instructor Coordinators and educators have gathered for the start of our fall Professional Development Conference!

Today's general sessions are sponsored by Emergency Vehicles Plus and Stryker — thank you both for supporting PDC 95.

This morning's lineup:
-Learning Through Thinking: An Understanding of the Modern Student — Kevin Farmer
-MDHHS Update — Anthony Pantaleo and Emily Bergquist

This afternoon moves into breakout sessions covering everything from mentoring to student professionalism to recognition programs.

Out in the exhibitor hall, 9 displaying vendors are on hand all day — stop by, say hello, and see what they're bringing to Michigan EMS education this year. This conference wouldn't be possible without them.

Important update for PDC 95 attendees: parking and directions

This year's conference is at a new-to-us location on GVSU's downtown Grand Rapids campus: the Richard M. DeVos Center, 401 West Fulton St, Grand Rapids, MI 49504.

Here's how to park and find your way in:

Parking (two options):
-Seward Flat Lot — 505 Fulton Street West, Grand Rapids, MI 49504
-Seward Parking Ramp — access off Lake Michigan Drive NW

From either lot, use the crosswalk on the east side of the ramp to cross the railroad tracks and Winter Ave NW, then continue straight east to the DeVos Center. Follow the event signage once inside to the designated conference room.

Parking permit instructions:
-Take a parking ticket at the lot entrance
-Bring your ticket to the registration desk for validation
-Scan your validated permit on your way out

We know a new venue means a new routine, so give yourself a few extra minutes to park and walk over, especially Friday morning.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone for PDC 95!

Hello fellow Society members,

As many of you are aware, the EMS office budget has undergone some changes. A meeting is scheduled for October 7 to discuss the necessary changes to education and how the office might operate under the new budget — and they're looking for our input.

Our usual MDHHS Update on Friday morning at the conference will be a two-part session this year:

1. The update we're all accustomed to (~30 minutes)
2. Input collection and Q&A regarding education and the new budget

The department has put together a survey for anyone who'd like to submit input before the meeting. Survey responses will help guide the discussion during the Friday session:

You'll also be able to bring up topics during the meeting itself, time permitting, even if you don't submit the survey beforehand.
